I went out and tried several load wieghts of Blue Dot this past weekend in my 17" Contender pistol chambered for 17 Mach IV. One load in particular worked out very well. A 25 gr Hornady HP (Moly coated) over 5 gr of BD and a CCI-BR4 primer gave a velocity of 2050 fps. The standard deviation over the 5 shot string was 37 fps which is not too bad. OAL of the round was 1.795". The great news came when I went down range and found that all 5 shots were in a .87 group! (3 of them were at .25) The day was windy with 15 mph gusts so I was very pleasantly surprised. Should be a great rabbit or gray squirrel load if you don't want too much meat damage. Very very quite as well. Semper Fi. |

That should be a good one. I have had great luck with my M4 and 17 rem shooting 10 g for fox, shoots right at 3000 or so and never tears up my pelts. same load out of both guns, that was nice. Redfeather got me started on the BD thing, he was working them for a while. I remember him saying 7.0g for a min charge and 11 for max or there abouts. not sure if there was a reason for the min charge , maby it was just his starting point, but maby something to consider too. I have been shooting only the 10g load in my rem for months now. It is about perfect for my needs , and good fox medicine out to 200 yds. see ya

The BD loads are pure magic. There is not a problem with the 5g load, but I would be careful going any lower than 5g of BD because you might not get enough pressure to get the bullet out of the barrel. I shoot the BD loads in alot of my varmint rifles, and they are magic on saving fur. Thanks. |
