Is H335 temperature sensitive? I tried some loads today using H335 (19.7gr with Hornady 25gr HP) in my 17 Mach IV and the results look promising.

I never used H335, but according to Todd Kindler, the H322 is better for summer heat. I believe that he indicated that the H335 was a little temp sensitive. The H322 is in the extreme line as well as the H4198. I have used H322, H4198 and n133 in the Mach IV.

Using Hornady 25gr HP and H322. Any suggestions where to start with H322? The Hodgdon reloading manual does'nt even list H322 for the 17 Mach IV.

17.2 gr. H-322 with a 25 gr. Starke gives me great accuracy and no pressure signs at all. Visit my homepage at.... http://www.geocities.com/hogshooter_2000/

I will have to check my notes and report back. I used the Sensational Seventeens manual as a baseline - I usually don't go as hot as Todd says is HOT.

I only used 22 grain Bergers, 20 grain V-maxes and 20 grain starkes in that barrel - it was a 20" barrel. I won't be able to tell you much about 25 grain bullets, but there are a lot of Mach IV shooters on the board that can point you in the right direction.

Yes it is temp. sensitive. I have been caught with this problem. I have replaced H335 with H322 in my MachIV just for this reason. H322 is an extreme powder and it meters great. It is not temp. sensitve and you get great velocity with adequate loading densitys. Use it you will be surprized at the result.

Chucker, sorry to burst your bubble but in the interest of safety H322 is even more temp sensitive than H335 particularly with warmer temps, ie more pressure. In my MkIV I've seen 200fps with 15 deg. increase. If your warm to begin with watch out. Thats one big reason a lot of us long time BR guys moved to the Vit. powders.

I have been using the Extreme version of H322 and it has been real predictable so far. Cause I am driving the 20gr. VMAX fairly stiffly and I can't afford a temp variation. Thanks, I will keep may safety glasses on and my head on strait.

One other issue to be aware of, 322 can vary greatly from lot to lot & it drives everybody nuts but the temp sensitivity plus the lot variable is a lot to think about. Hope this helps.
