Howdy all,

I have been hanging around the GGVG board for a few years now. Just found out about this board, and have reviewed about all the historical messages. They are VERY informative, and I commend the boardmaster and members for an outstanding job.

I am waiting for my ''new'' used .17 Remington to arrive in the big brown truck.

I am a volume prairie dog shooter and got the .17 Remington as a new toy because of its low recoil, reduced noise, and ability to shoot many rounds without overheating the barrel. (I shoot until the targets are gone, irrespective to the supposed damage to the barrel. I can always purchase another barrel, but cannot re-purchase the time I spend in the field with my wife.)

I have a beginner question about the use of .223R cases in .17 Remington

I have many thousands of FA, WIN, and REM commercial .223R cases on hand from The Brassman. Can I full length resize them to .17 Remington and use them with NO outside neck reduction.

I have a 22-250AI40* with a small neck. I really did not enjoy reducing the necks, but I had to. if the reduction from 223to 117cal is too much, I would rather get some new unfired factory .17 Remington cases and need to get them on order now.

I will post additional questions as they come up.

Thanks in advance for your time and patience,

Happy trails,

Jumper aka Barry ross

.17 Remington brass is pretty cheap so that is likely the best way to go. I believe 223 cases would be too short to use in the .17 Remington since the .17 Remington is based on the 222 Remington Magnum case.

Welcome to the board. You will likely heat the barrel just like most varmint cartridges if you shoot fast. The smaller .17's like the hornet are much better for the rapid fire.
