What is considered "tight necked" for 17?
Does 17 REm respond to neck turning as well as 224's?
Do 17's generally do better "off the lands"?

I have quite of few 22ppc cases, is 17/ppc "waaaaay over bored?"

TIA

Seventeens do like to be neck turned, and yes the 17 ppc is waaaay over board, and yes it is waaaaay fun! Build one, it's the most fun you can have with your pants on! If your going to try and shoot the itty bitty groups, neck turn. If your just going to shoot varmits, don't worry about it. The seventeens are more that accurate enough for that.

I had a 17 ppc built on a Rem 700 SA, and out of a whole safe full of rifles, it the most accurate, hands down. It's a NO hold-over rifle that shoots bench rest like groups...... I haven't shot a bullet, it didn't like. Opps, I take that back. I shot two 37 gr Bergers. Not the bullets fault. The barrel is only a 1/9" twist. Those bullets came out flying like wounded ducks..... 3' wide and 3' high. Not good... hahaha

N540 and 20gr V-maxes are like shooting high explosives. Velocities that will make your chrony call you a liar. And remember Moly, Moly, Moly........... Glad to share if anyone would like more info. They also work great with the heavier 17 bullets, this is probably where the ppc really shines. jh

My gun ended up weight 13# with scope and I'm not sure I want to lug that much around. If you know of someone that might be interested. Let me know. I also have Redding 'S' neck and comp seater dies and some other ppc specific gear. I've got right at $1400 in it.
