hi gang
just seen the flyer from grice gun shop here in pa it seems remington has decided to go with the 221 fireball for this years classic. although many of us love and adore the 17's i think this gun will be a nice addition. if it shoots anything like the old xp-100 it should be alot of fun good shooting pahunter36 |

I agree that it might be nice as a fireball, but would also make a nice .17 mach IV later in life it didn't shoot up to snuff. I really like the stock on the classic 700.

I thought Remington quit making .221 rounds. Why, then, would they introduce a new rifle in that caliber? Nevertheless, I'm glad they did. I have .221 XP100's, and regret Remington's dropping that caliber. Is the brass still available, or do we have to make it from .222-class brass when the old stock is used up? |

Yes, you still can get 221 brass. Check Midway or Midsouth, they generally have it in stock. |

Chris, thanks for the info on where to get .221 brass. I've ordered enough to last as long as my barrels. Good shooting! |

I posted this just now, but didn't seem to get to the forum. So here goes again, and my apologies if it hits a second time. My question is, I thought Remington has recently stopped production of their .221 cartridges. I wonder why they now are chambering it for their "Classic?"...maybe because it's no longer in producton? I love the .221, and have three XP100's in that caliber. When my brass is worn out, is there replacement factory brass still available, or will I have to buy a conversion die for the .222 base stock? |

Tim, tell me a little about your 14. What bullets have you tried, and what kind of performance are you getting? Cleaning equipment? Thanks. I've spoken to Jeff Lawrence, may just rebarrel that CZ 17 to the 14 Hornet........ Dan C |

Well, Ive tried Bill Eichelberger's bullets and now using his 13 grainers with AA1680 for around 4200fps. I've heard Russ Lucas is making good bullets and plan to try some. I clean just like I do for BR, except now I use a $70 cleaning rod that bends really easy. The most daunting task is making cases but once that's done things are pretty standard other than trying to get thsat powder down that little hole, patience. When it's all said and done it's fun stuff. I've actually dropped a few gray squirrels, man they stop quick, plus zero recoil. Iv you like to screw around with this stuff it's fun, highly recommended. |

Come on! 7S boat tail 14's?? You may have just pushed me over the edge Russ. I always felt that the current 14 cal bullets could possibly be made more ballistically efficient. Hope these new dies work out well. I'm moving closer to the 14 cal club.......... Dan C |

I've heard they are not very useful beyond 150 yds or so due to this, but have you found it to be true? Anyone have the BC of a .142 cal bullet? Thanks |

First let me say that's .144, not .142 Jeff Lawrence
has all the records from the Walker shop on the 14's they made, and they made no .142 barrels there. I understand that DKT made some .142 barrels, but the quality wasn't really up to Jeff's. If there is wind, the bullet will move quite a bit. I
I have done some experimentation with tungsten powder, and

Right now the list is small. I have a rem 700 classic in 17 rem , love that one.
I am going to sell the encore and get my paws on a browning micro hunter that will go directly to shillen for a 17AH rebarrel. This is the one I really want to set up BAD. that's it for now

A guy names Mark DeArmond in Childress TX. He ain't a 'smith but got tired of waiting on custom guns to be built and bought a lathe. Hmmmmm My Rampro action and Douglas barrel he chambered and fitted shoots 20 gr. V-Max bullets into .2 consistently and many .1’s doubt he would do outside work, just had a gun to sell and I bought it.
The second is from Rampro himself and just got it in yesterday so will report back 1-7-02. It is 17 Ack Bee and the first Rampro is in 17 Ack Hornet. I had an extractor problem with the first one but John at Rampro fixed--no charge and 2 day turn. Other than that, I love it and don't know about the 2nd. Beauty is in the shooting. Brooks |
