I think that might be a stretch of the limitations of this little cartridge. I do intend to use it for Fox though and think that it will be great on the foxes. Time will tell, but will have to wait till next year since the fox season ends on 1/15 and I won't have my hands on one of these before then. I know that some are using the .17 Hornet for shooting coyotes but they are shooting 20 grain bullets at close to 3800 fps while the .17 HMR is only shooting a 17 grain bullet at 2550 fps. |

I have a ? maybe you could help me with, I have a marlin 782, Is there anyway I could put the action into service as a 17 HRM, the chamber was messed up from factory and just never fooled with it. You know any smiths who do reasonable work in that area?
thanks JS |

I don't know anything about this action. I wonder if it is a threaded barrel or some other type of attachment like the 10/22 Rugers. I would think that Fred Smith from Bullberry could tell you if he might be able to do something with it. He has a reamer for the .17 HMR and may be able to rebarrel. If he can't he will tell you that he can't. Others here may be able to tell you more, I am just not familiar with this action? Is it a tube feed? That may cause problems with feeding also. |

thanks for the reply, sorry should have posted info. The 782 is a clip fed model, the barrel looks like its pressed and pinned, doesn't look like its threaded but could be. bought the gun new years ago never could get any accuracy shooting CCI shells, when I ran out of them started experimenting and about every third round of any other type the case ruptured and stuck in chamber, should I try to fix it or would it be cheaper to buy a new 17 HRM. gonna buy a 17 was just trying to find out the best way to own one.
