Well, it sure does look like a mini encore to me. I hope that the triggers will be easy to adjust. weight is a little increased to, but not by enough to worry about. I really like my contenders and would hate to see us go backwards. As far as the recock without opening - that is a nice feature. Any information on Release date, anybody?

First of all I would like to say "Hi". I just found this forum and have been reading and learning. I have just ordered a CZ 527 in 22 hornet. My plan is to shoot it as a hornet while I save the $$$ to have it rebarreled in 17 AH. I would like recommendations as to which barrel maker and length to buy. In HIS Service

Sounds like a good plan. I have a Pac-Nor barrel coming for my Remington to chamber in .17 Javelina. I can't comment on it yet, since I don't even have it. There are a number of good barrel makers out there for the .17's including Shilen, Douglas, Lilja... Any of the premium barrel makers should do, probably more of a personal preference thing. Barrel length for the Hornet on the CZ - I vote for 22". Even with the Javelina, I am probably gonna make it 22 or 23 at the most. Welcome to the board.

Good Advice. Do NOT purchase a Douglas barrel. Douglas Barrels/Tim Gardner is is the worst company I have EVER worked with. Tim was very rude to me and down right condescending.
If you purchase a Douglas you WILL be sorry.

That's the first negative thing I've heard about Douglas barrels, except for hearing that it takes a long time to get one. Todd Kindler has been recommending Douglas and Shilen almost exclusively for a few years. I took a chance and purchased a Lothar Walther for my first 17 caliber project without knowing very much about them and have been very pleased with it. It is a "fast" barrel with no tendency to jacket foul at all.

Corbin,, Shame on you!!! The best shooting rifles I own are wearing a Douglas Barrel. Am sending my Mauser Action to Douglas for It's 3rd barrel. The first 2 were 22-243 Middelstead. Each one lasted a Loooooogg Time. I bought the rifle in 1974 with over a 1000 rounds at that time. I think the 243 will be a little bit easier on the barrel life. I'll swear by Douglas, nice people to talk to also. Bill

Thank you for the heads up. I would like to know a little more about your problems with Douglas. Was it just a bad day or are they bad barrels. I had a job interview a few years ago with Leupold. Filled out three pages of employment application and was ushered into the HR office. The woman there went ballistic and shouted at about wasting her time. She said I was a machinist and they did not advertise for machinists. I showed her the add from that mornings paper asking for machinists with my qualifications. She refused to look at it, called me a liar and threatened to call the police. I picked up my resume and application and left. Just because this woman may have a problem does not make Leupold a bad scope. In HIS Service

From my first 17cal. rifle, built in 1964, to the present I think I have owned most of the known 17 barrels out there, with the exception of the Pac-Nor, and have always had good sucess with the Douglas.

I have had two Pence's that were very good, he is no longer in business. My last one was a pac-nor that I had fluted and cyro treated. Absolutely the best .17 barrel I have ever shot. My next barrel will also be a pac-nor. These were all in .17 Remington. Also have used Krieger, Lilja, and Shilen in other calibers with good success.

I have had excellent results with both Shilen and Lilja barrels in .17 cal. My latest .17 is a .17 Javelina with a Lilja barrel. It quit fouling after 7 rounds, and even after shooting 20 rounds it shows very little copper fouling. One of the things you should look at with .17 caliber barrels is the ratio of land width to groove width as well as the number of grooves. This alone will go a long way toward helping with the fouling problems that even some of the best .17 barrels struggle with, although it's more pronounced with the larger case .17's like the Javelina, the .17 Rems, 17PPC's etc. Have fun with your .17! -Al.

Sorry to hear about problems with Douglas,I always thought they
offered a good product for the price they ask. After using many
custom barrels I am sold on Pac Nor's barrels and services.

a gun smith friend of mine ordered a douglas barrel for a personal project. he later found out the rifling for the last 3 in. was streight(no twist) after contacting douglas he was told they would not waranty it. ed sheilen traded him a good barrel for it . ed had it on display at his shop for a long time, kinda like going to a tire store and seeing all the things they've taken out of flats. try lilja, pac nor, or if you can live long enough k&p foxhunter
