What bolt style, actions are available for Varmit Rifles? Either Single Shot or Repeater. Anybody ever heard of a short action Whetworth (Mark X) in the single shot model. I have one of the long actions, but want to go to a short case, like a 221, or 218 B length case. I understand Sako's are out there but very pricey. I keep seeing a CZ Brand action...Who has info? Thanks Benny

CZ has a better quality American model than their standard 527. Has anyone ever seen this in person?

Hello
I was wondering, I am starting to develop a real love for the small calibers. I was wondering, if I wanted to get into making my own jacketed bullets, what would I need in the way of equipment? Where can I get it, and where can I get the jackets and lead wire? I am primarily interested in 14,17,19,20 cals. Also has anybody ever tried to home-create a bullet with a polycarbonate tip? Or is the stuff to do that not available? Thanks
Joe

There is everything you need plus a ton of good info. I have been thinking about this for a long time myselfe, its just a little pricy right now. I'd have to hold off on my new CZ super 17 varmintizer if I go ordering swaging dies now. Good luck. Let us know how you do, I'll place an order on your first production run of 17 cal boat tail soft points : )

I have swaged bullets in 224 and 458 with Corbin equipment. It is expensive but is quality made. Dave Corbin is a great guy to talk to on the phone. I would recommend trying out http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ALTBULLET/
before spending any money. There are several die manufactures there including Richard Corbin, Dave's brother who is also in business. If I were to do it again, I would talk to Richard first. In HIS Service

Going below 17 will be a problem. Richard Corbin is the man to talk to...he is building me another set of 14 dies now. Before you even consider 14 dies, read my article in the articles area......that's just the tip of the iceberg. if I were not a machinist, I never could have succeeded. It would cost a fortune to have someone make the punches and jacket forming equipment I use now..... However, if you are serious, and want to spend the money, I'll help you. Unless you are looking for the perfect bullet, or want to sell them, I wouldn't advise spending either the time or money.

Joe, you might give Larry Blackmon a call. 318-387-3266 down in La. He can set you up a lot cheaper than Corbin and his dies are good. People are shooting bullets from his dies in Br, including Jim I believe (Green 6ppc bullets)and myself from my own dies. Yuo'll need a three die set..core squirt ide, core swage die and the point up die. You'll need a press to..I bought a conversion for my Rockchuker from Larry but he sells a press too. You need a core cutter. Now for jackets...I don't know if jackets for smaller than 22 caliber are available...my buddy has a set of .20 caliber dies and he has to swage down 22 jackets..he got this die from Corbin but Larry may be able to fix you up with that too. You'll need a tumbler to lube the cut cores and jackets...for a small operation a kids rock polisher works great at about $30 in a toy store. About jackets....I think .600 is the shortest 22 jacket you can get from J4 (Berger), so depending on what bullet you intend to make you might have to shorten them. Corbin can make you a die that draws the jacket down to size and pinches it off in one operation. Hope this helps. email if I can help further, Ron miles@uplink.net

Hello,
I have been looking at building a small to mid case capacity 17 caliber wildcat. Several of the rounds that I have studied are based on rimmed cases. I am leery of usuing these, as the rim thickness can vary. Is there some way of uniforming rims? Also, in the real world, is it an issue?
