Hello,
Since a 17 Javelina is a 222 rem cut down and reformed, could the 223 Rem round also be used to create it? |

Excellent .17 Javelina brass can also be made from the .17 Remington cases. Run the .17 Rem case thru the Javelina seating die (without the seating plug, naturally), trim the excess neck off, and then run it through the .17 Javelina f.l. die with the expander assy in place. Lube the case with Imperial sizing die lube, but don't get too much on them, or you'll wrinkle the shoulder area. If you are using Wilson dies, like I am, you still need a Javelina f.l. die for case forming. In this situation, make sure you lube the inside of the case where the NEW neck/shoulder area will be so the expander does not pull the case out of shape as you drag it back over the expander. After you trim the excess neck length, run the case back thru the f.l. die. This will get you around the expense of buying forming dies for the Javelina. Polish the expander with 600 Wet or Dry paper before using it. It won't remove any appreciable material, but it will smooth the expander up considerably. -Al. |
