Saw one yesterday. I was driving down the road and saw him at 9:30 am. He was a ways off when I spotted him moving in the tall grass. I couldn't believe that it was a hog on Jan 28th. Got a good look at him as he was only 5 feet from the edge of the road when I went by. Orange winter coat

Jim,
I had something happen while on a walk yesterday.
Two deer came running across a field crossed the road not more that 15feet in front of us and off into the field on the other side. WOW it was COOL. We continued walking up the road and talked about how rare that is and what are the chances of it happening. After we had walked about 50 more yards the two deer had circled the field and crossed the road in front of us once again. WAY COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!A Kodak moment if there ever was one. On our walk route we have seen several wild turkeys in the field. Several days ago we saw 4 turkeys. Corbin

I've been looking around for a synthetic replacement stock for the 17 rem classic i'm buying. I'd like a high comb/ vertical pistol grip like an anschutz silhouette stock. I've looked at Mcmillan and H&S. Are there any lower priced competitors? I don't expect "drop-ins" at a lower price. Any gun smiths have a catalog? Any body interested in a factory wooden stock for their Remington 700 SA BDL?

OK, looks as if I am the new owner of a used T/C Contender frame. Now, I am thinking Bullberry for the barrel, a 20" in 17 AH. Not too light, not too heavy...... Would you go with the semi-bull? Also looking for an old ratty thumbhole stock for the thing, the rattier the better. If you have an old stock, thumbhole or otherwise, laying around that you are embarassed to bring out into the sunlight, let me know. Also need to know about the best bases, rings, etc. So many questions, so little $$........ Thanks. And a special thanks to all those that helped me to decide on this thing, especially Jim S. I will certainly tell my wife that you forced me into it........ Richard Jones

For the contender, 21" length and full bull work well for me. The weight is not excessive, and the length of 21" seems to balance well. As for your choice of calibers, I think that you picked a good one. Base and rings. I use the standard Weaver base with the Warne rings. I have come to really like the Warne rings as they are easy to install and remove. I was using the Burris Zee rings and I still have them on some barrels but they are not nearly as easy to install and remove as the Warne. The Warne Rings can be purchased from Lock Stock and Barrel. Not sure if your wife hates me yet, but I sure have a way of annoying my own.

OK, if you had to choose, 17AH or 17 Ackley Bee, and why...... And don't worry about the price of the brass....... Rich

I would go with the 17 HeBee. You can always load it down to Hornet fps. I like mine and suggest a caliber with a rim. Mike

I would go Ackley Bee, the hebee is close but were the new should is formed compared to the 218 bee should is way off and seems like it will cause allot of stress to the brass, plus the Hebee needs a little more neck in my opinion Go Ackley Bee and you can down load to AH or step them up but do not get me wrong the 17 Ackley Hornet is still a great choice also

The location of the shoulder is pushed forward more on the Hebee than on the Ackley Bee. I didn't lose many cases when fireforming but the few that I did lose had a split/crack right at the junction of the case body and shoulder.

I like the Hebee plenty. The Bee brass is much stronger than the hornet brass. I agree with what JD says about the neck length on the Hebee vs. the ack bee. A longer neck may be a little better but My Hebee shoots fantastic with the bullets that I shot through it. As far as the Ackley Hornet, it is just plain neat. I like the cartridge as well as the Bee. Case life will likely not be as good, but that doesn't create a problem for me since we don't have p-dogs out here. It won't get the same velocity as the .17 Hebee or Ackley Bee but it will get within 100 fps.

Can someone point me to a smith that can/will re-barrel my model 21 currently in 17 Rem, to 300 whisper, 30-221, or 300 Fireball? So far these are the ones that have answered no:
Cooper
Shilen
SSK Also, can this chambering be done with a 221 firball reamer with a 30 cal pilot, and then the lead cut in a seperate step? Thanks! jh

Surprised that both Cooper and SSK said no. Contact Fred at Bullberry and see what he might say about it. He has the reamer that was used to cut mine. neat cartridge for sure.

I am currently trying to assemble a collection of small caliber guns, and I want to add the dart cartridges based on the 25 ACP case. Has this round been successful or was it more of an experiment? If anyone has any experience with these I would appreciate your comments.

I neck the little pistol round down to 22 caliber, call it the 22 Epperson Cricket. It's similar to the Dart family, though developed before I found out anything about them. I have chronoed the 35gr V-Max at an average of 1850fps over 2.5gr of 231. I'm not sure if you would consider this a success or an experiment, though I know of one or two other people who are doing this conversion to their M-1969 Romainian Trainers, just like I did. For all I know this just might be the most powerfull round being fired from a 22 long rifle sized action (G) (Notice I did NOT say a RIMFIRE sized action). I'm pretty sure I have the Ruger 10/22 conversion worked out..If I could find someone willing to make a centerfire bolt for it. I have had case drawings of the 12.14.17, and 20 cal Eichelberger Darts sent to me. The neck on those are a bit longer than the Cricket. Unfortunately I have still been unable to find any load or performance data on the darts to compare mine against.
