Guys,
I need to know the case length for the 17 Ackley Hornet in a
Bullberry contender barrel.Max. or trim length. I have been
away from shooting for several years and some of my records
are not where I thought they were(or where I thought I thought
they were?)If any of you bullberry 17 ah shooters can help
me with this I thank you a bunch. This is an excellent forum!
Thanks again.

The answer was to trim to 1.395". This is in the same ballpark as the K and standard hornets, which makes a lot of sense.

Thanks for the info. That does make sense. I had seen some
shorter figures for other chambers (Kimber & Saunders)so I
wanted to check with some other Bullberry owners.
Thanks again!

I also agree that having all the Hornet variations the same length makes the most sense. But you're so right that it's by far better to check into it first and keep out of trouble for sure. Hope ours will both be real shooters. Take good care. Dan

Not sure, I never needed to trim them. I must have measured them before fireforming but have only shot them during the fireforming. Have just reloaded some of the formed cases and didn't have a length problem. I have the trim length somewhere in a load manual, I'll post it if I can find it.

A buddy made some cases for me, out of .357 Max cases, since I had my barrel modified to also handle a rimmed case. When he measured my chamber, it was definitely less than the 1.4" length of the .221 length. I think he said the max I should go was 1.385"? I have to double check my records, but he said that was length was still to allow some case growth?

Wish I could find a Marlin. 9 out of 10 places here in Utah haven't even heard of it. They give kind of a funny look when asked about it. I'd like a Ruger, but $449.00 seems a little steep. I understand the blued Marlin will be right around $200.00. I'm saving my pennies : )

I'm beginning to wonder about this cartridge. I read the recent Guns and Ammo article on this gun and the author provided no groups that he himself shot, and despite stating that they killed ground squirrel with it gave no account of it's performance on same. What he DID say was that it was marginal on fox-sized game, too big for "small game" and too puny for coyote. Makes you wonder, eh? And this disclaimer from a magazine that promoted shooting prairiedogs with a 22LR at 200+ yards a few issues back! I have a gun and ammo coming but I'm beginning to have my doubts. The test reports seem to leave alot out. Glad to see the rifles are hitting the racks, though.~Andrew
