Has anyone used these before? I believe he also produces a 40-50 gr .243 cal bullet as well. They have been mentioned a few times in Rifle Shooter, most recently in the July/Aug 2001 issue. They were running 25-gr HP's from a .22 Hornet at 4000 fps with 0.3-0.5" groups! I was wondering about the BC of these rounds, though. They are lightweight, but the pictures show them as being longer and more streamlined than the 35 gr V-Max or 45 gr SP's. They also mentioned that the OAL of the JRP load was too long to function in a standard Hornet magazine. Is it possible for these to have a higher BC despite the light weight? After all, weight isn't supposed to be important in BC, just sectional density and external shape. Thanks. PS: anyone know the price per 100? I have the address, and plan on buying some to find out for myself. |

Determining the BC of a bullet? | ![]() | ![]() | |

I plan on purchasing a box or two of the JRP bullets I mentioned below, and was wondering what information I need to calculate their BC. I have a chronograph, so I can measure muzzle velocity and 100-yd velocity. The weight is known (25 gr), so what else is needed? Is there any online calculator that I could punch these figures into? Thanks. |

Yes, you can do it this way, altho' two chronos would give you more accurate readings. With two chronos, just take the two readings, plug them into the program. With a one-chrono set up, I would shoot about 5-10 rounds at the muzzle and get an average. Then move the chrono to 100 and get another average. Then, plug both numbers into the program and calculate. One program that does this is PointBlank, available free at www.huntingnut.com Also, Bill Frenchu's excellent program, available as shareware at http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/wrf/shoot.htm#prog I use both at times, just as a check against each other. Hope this helps. Rich |

The most accurate load in my rig is 24 gr of imr 4320 with a 25g starke and fed 205M primers. Then the reduced charge of 10 gr of blue dot. I am not sure about the comp seater, but try www.lockstock.com they are a good place to start. I have a bunch of data I could e-mail you if you want. good luck |

i would appreciate any info you would forward my way, thank you. that 24 grains of imr 4320, is that max or near max load? have you ever used any 20 gr vmax's? i am just getting into this, so am i right thinking that the 24 gr with the 20 grain vmax would be a safe load since it is a lighter pill? thanks for your help

The 24 g load is getting close to max, so I would say work up slowly as always. The 20g V-max with the same charge was ok, but no where near as accurate as the 25g starke, that is the best bullet I have tried, and I have tried a mess. I did not have great results with the V-max in either my 17 rem or m4 , but give them a try and see how they do for you. I'll send ya the data. see ya
