recently i ran into a guy at a gun show who is a avid varmint hunter. he was from buena vista co , he was selling berger and calhoon bullits. he had a scaled down centerfire action about the size of a 17 mach 4 . he said he got it out of north or south carolina. does anyone know of a mfg down there? as i remember he said he paid less than 400.00 for it. bob

I am definately interested. I wish that remington was shortning the 700 action on this year's 221fb classic, that would sure be nice. I am in the process of hunting down a new action for a project, I'll keep my eyes open for sure, if I find something I'll post it . Did you ask on the GGVG board? I'll bet someone could help out there. good luck, let us know if ya find one.

FHB, Did you ever get that mini-mauser action? (for the .17 Pee Wee, right?) I had my local gun dealer look for one, and the distributor said he hadn't received any yet. My dealer has already left a standing order with him, and she said as soon as they become available she'll be ordering a couple. Did your dealer ever find any?

marinepmi, haven't given up on the pee wee, that's been an ongoing project for almost 5 years. as far as the actions i have had great luck with the mini mausers but i think the cz has a little bit better finish to it.i don't realy care for the clip appearance on the cz but the mini mauser hornet isn't any better. bob

John used to be in the Carolina's but now is in Kentucky. Look at ramprocorp.com
I have two of them and you won't be dissappointed. Be sure and get the small action and the Jewell triger.

Those are his rings that are fitted to the reciever, no bases. I bought the wood seperately and shipped it to him. take a look at this target. All groups were at 100 and with different powder charges. This is a 17 Ack Bee.

Boy, let me tell you, it is well worth the price and the extra $170 for a Jewell trigger still makes it lower than Coopers at $825 with their standard trigger. A good trigger but, not a Jewell.

The two actions I know of that are commercially avaiable right now that are made for the .223/.222/.17M4 class of cartridges are the Charles Daly Mini-Mausers and the CZ 527's. The Mini-Mausers have a bottom-hinged magazine, while the CZs have a detachable 5-shot mag that extends down quite a ways below the stock. I don't think even a used Rampro would sell for only $400, if so just tell me where and get out of the way :-) BTW, I have a CZ 527 American I love, and if I were to build a new .17 on a budget that is the action I would use in a heartbeat. Peace.
