I would buy the Kimber. Very good price! What style stock does the rifle have?
Did it come with the little book written by Mike Hill? I sure
would like to know how it works out. Also want to thank you for
the .17 AH data you posted.
Thanks

OK, now have my ryanite forearm for my Contender. Any tips on this? I assume the area that hits the frame should be relieved, but what about the barrel? I know Bullberry has a "fix" for all of this, but this isn't a Bullberry......... If I relieve the area at the frame, looks like that should "float" the barrel adequately. Am I looking at this correctly? Also, I hear pros and cons on the oversized pin. What's your opinion on this? Help or not? Thanks for your help. Rich in VA

A poster on another forum madethe claim that both of these bullets had essentially the same BC. I find it hard to believe and do not know of a site to readily look it up. Can anyone here confirm or disprove this claim?

howdy folks! I have a BLR .223 that I'd REALLY like to make into a .17. Is there anyone who knows where to go to get the barrel work done? The bolt lugs right into the barrel. Any info out there?? Thanks for your time!!

wondering where you guys are getting the best accuracy in seating for your 17 rem's? i want to try 20 gr vmax shooting out of a bullberry barrel

I am not familiar with Fred's .17 Rem chambers but I would think that they are tailored towards a 25 grain bullet. If you are able to seat a 20 grain bullet, you may not have much bullet in the case. This is OK as long as the bullets are straight and don't get bumped to much. I would suggest that you would much better served using the 25 grain bullets and even the 30 grain bullets in this cartridge. It is a big case and works much better shooting the heavier bullets. I also understand that some folks like to shoot the smallest bullets in the biggest case to attain extreme velocities. What I usually do with the contenders and encores is seat the bullets so they just touch the lands or I back them off 10 thousandths. Jumping the bullets vs. seating them into the lands will not make much difference on paper. I would be surprised if you were able to measure the difference.

i understand the smallest bullet, biggest case. i am not really looking for that, the 20 vmax were the only ones i could find locally. with the pill touching the lands, i actually have just under 1/3 of the pill in the case, so i am thinking fred's throats are on the short side. i will try a few at varying depth and see what i get. thanks for your input. andy

I wrote Hornady and they told me that the 25g and 20g are the same length so what most load book have to O.A.L for the 25's can be used for the 20's.

Just barely touching the lands if you can reach that far with the 20's. IF you seat them too long, you will experience trouble when closing the encore/contender frame. I try to seat them to just touch or off of the lands about .010 thousandths to avoid any problems unloading a round - sticking a bullet in the lands is not desirable to me. As far as accuracy difference, it will be hard to measure any loss or gain in that small amount of difference. The main thing is to make sure that you have enough bullet in the case to keep it straight during handling. I try to keep a bullet diameter in the case which would be .17" in this case. You can get by with less if needed, that is just a rule of thumb that I use.

Hello Dan,
Excellent picture. What brand and model of digital camera are you using? I'm looking for a good digital camera, but don't know what to get that does not cost to much. Thanks
Also need your advise for .17PPC barrel twist. What do you recommend for the 25 to 30 gr. bullets. Thanks for your time, Larry

Larry, If you go with a 1/9" twist with the PPC, you can use either the 25 or 30gr bullets, both will stablize. Actually mine even shoots the 20gr V-Max very well too... Neat cartridge!

Agree with Jody. The 10 twist *might* work, but why run on the ragged edge? Go with the 9. I just picked up this camera, an Olympus C3040. Still figuring it out. The Oly's come highly recommended by Pete Hauer, and he sure seems to know what he's talking about. This one was about $600, but they make good models for around $3-400. Dan C

To be honest Matt, I haven't tried the Hammett's on prairie dogs because they don't shoot in any of my Coopers! I have 400 of the 25's and hope to burn them up in my CZ Mach IV. Dan C
