Knew I lurked out here for some reason....Bill's book is $25 and you can get it from The Outdoorsman, Inc., RD 1 Box 228, Kingsley, PA. 18820. (570)222-3390.
I am gathering info also, and have some additional info on powders not listed in Bill's book on a couple of cartridges if you are interested.

I'm thinking of working up a gopher load to shoot rabbits and squirrels (the former at up to 125-150 yards). I'm looking for 2500ish fps, good accuracy and low noise!. I am aware of the data on Calhoon's site re. Blue Dot loads, but has anyone else worked up such loads? Any help appreciated.
Cheers, laurent.

I can't comment on the .222, but I just recently tried some Blue Dot loads in my .223 (10.0 gr. 40 vmax, rem 7 1/2). A friend was shooting his 22 hornet on the next bench and my Blue Dot loads were quieter. I didn't chrony them, but I zeroed at 150 yds and was hitting around 2 inches high at 100. The Cooper was putting them in a nice little ragged hole at 100, but the groups opened up a little too much at 150 (.5-.75). If I do any more I'm going to crank it up a bit, but the .17 AH is so sweet in this role.

You could probably just use .223 Rem load data but back off a couple grains and work up, starting at ~8 gr? I've used 10-12 grs of B.D. in my .223 with no problems, and I've seen loads all the way up to 16 gr (but I would be VERY careful that high) with B.D. in the .223 Rem, so I'd expect a .222 to max out around 13-14 gr with a 40-gr bullet.

Dan, just wondering what is your neck Dia. on your 17 Predator? Do you have a tight neck ? My 17 BR is a .204 tight neck . I should be getting some 30gr gold from Tod soon ! Thanks! Mark

Mark, the reamer is ground with a .197" neck for people who want the option of neck turning. I may have mine opened up to .202" in a separate operation. Unturned necks measure around .200" over a bullet depending on the case brand. I hate to spend a bunch of time turning necks only to fling them into a snow drift when a double comes in! Dan C

I just got a coupla hundred of them low drag 30 grain GOLD bullets and can't wait to try them in my Javelina. With a .280 BC, they will be just the ticket for long range .17 shooting. Also, my Javelina reamer has a .197 neck and requires neck turning as Dan stated. I didn't measure the diameter of a loaded round without neck turning, so can't say what that would be, but I used Winchester .222 brass.
