Just finished breaking in the barrel and doing some preliminary chrono work today. It is basically a 221 Fireball case necked down to 19 with a 30 degree shoulder. The name means 'FireBall Improved' and was coined by DAA, and it kind of stuck! The rifle is a CZ 527 Varmint with a 25" Pac-Nor barrel done by James Leahy. Performance is going to exceed my expectations a little as it easily pushes the 32 grain Calhoon bullet to 38-3900 fps! Accuracy is not known yet as I was doing a lot of cleaning and the wind didn't give me a break, howling at 20-30 mph........Oh well, it will be a fun dog gun to play with this summer. I'm positive it's much better than either the 17 Mach IV or the 221 Fireball. I just haven't figured out how yet, LOL!! Dan C ![]() Modified by Dan C at Thu, Apr 11, 2002, 14:20:02 |

Dan,
Is there anyone besides Calhoon that is making .19 caliber projectiles? It will be interesting to see what is the top velocity you can get with the .221 case. What is the top weight for the 19cal bullest currently offered? Corbin |

Calhoon is presently the only maker of 19 caliber bullets, a fact that scares off many potential customers I'm afraid. On the other hand, he makes a wide variety of weights and is constantly testing and improving his line. He currently offers 27, 32, 36, 40, and 44 grain weights. The heaviest I'll shoot in the FBI will probably be the 36.....the others are more heavily constructed for the 19-223 and likely wouldn't perform well at the lower speeds I can attain. I hit nearly 3900 fps with the 32, and expect over 3600 with the 36. Good performance from such a small case! Dan C |

The 19FBI sure sounds like a well balanced round.I'll bet it really tosses dogs.Maybe I should use it for my all day dog gun
I'm planning.I hope James adds a Sabre tip bullet some day maybe a 35grn would be a good idea. Regards Matt |

Looks like a neat round and that hollow point should expand well at the speeds you are reaching. Should do well on the p-dogs. Think that you'll get any air time? |

Jim, it is surprising how hard the 19's hit. My little 19 Calhoon with the 27's produces 'helicopters' frequently! This one should do it too, and a little farther out........ Dan C |

Dan looks like a great round. I am curious what kind of range you are getting? |

I've only had it to the range twice, testing powders etc. But it shoots the 32 grain bullet as fast as the Mach IV shoots a 25, with the same BC, so the trajectory would be identical. The 19 would of course pack more energy at all ranges. The 36 gr. bullet would probably be best for looong range PD shooting. Dan C |

and 3125 with 50's, neat arent they

The efficiency and performance of these small cartridges never ceases to amaze me. What I like is the flat trajectory combined with very low recoil, something only a small caliber/small case will give you unless a brake is used. And I don't like them! Dan C |
