I just got a "new" 218 Bee barrel from a gentleman on the T/C list. It's a T/C Custom Shop barrel, blue, started off at 22", and he shortened it to 18", so his daughter and granddaughter could handle it better. He did tell me it had a grand total of about 60 rounds thru it........ I did shoot it the other night with some furnished handloads, about 10-12 rounds, then cleaned thoroughly, let it sit with some Butch's in it, absolutely NO copper fouling present. To say that I am pleased is an understatement. Now to bench it and see what it will do with some Lil' Gun and some 40 gr. V-Max's or Bergers. I still have a cache of 40 and 45 gr. Bergers, BC (Before California). Will keep you informed, and hope to get some pics of the new rig this weekend. Rich |

rich, congradulations on your new purchase it sounds real neat.
i found out yesterday that 15 gr of lil gun with a 46 gr calhoon gave 3450 fps which is to much, i lost one case loose primer. there seemed to be a presure spike on that one round with a velocity of 3509 fps. 15.5 gr of lil gun with a 40 v-max was just over 3500 fps. this was from a ruger no 1 with 21 in barrel. thompson contenders are realy neat guns i bought my first one in 1972.

Yeah, I got a pound of Lil' Gun last night, and some 35 gr. V-Maxes. Think this would be a good gun to try those stubby looking things in. Thanks for the info. Rich |

Hi All, I am looking for specs on the Hornet chamber, I think my chamber may be too large?? but then "what do I know" so I thought I would ask the small caliber experts on this board. The best I can measure, the chamber is .307" just inside the rim recess. Thanks in advance, Marcos |

Marcos, if your chamber really is .307" at the back, that is terribly oversize. The 'standard' specs for the Hornet at the base is .2989" or therabouts. And THAT is way oversize for today's brass. My custom 17 Ackley Hornet reamer is .294" at the base, just right for modern cases........ Dan C |

Primer Flash Hole Uniformity! | ![]() | ![]() | |

While I was reloading and checking the primer flash holes I noticed that the Norma brass flash hole was about 20% smaller than the Winchester or Remingtom. Lyman makes a flash hole reamer to make them all the same size. Will it hurt anything to open up the Norma flash hole? Thanks in advance. |

Flash hole uniformity and flash hole size are two different things. I don't think that opening up the flash holes would hurt anything as long as you did it in the correct way. A way that would ensure the uniformity. The primary reason for flash hole uniformity is to remove the burr that is created in the manufacturing process of the brass. When you use the tool to remove this burr, you can feel it as you turn the tool. Another thing to consider is the decapping pin used in sizing the brass may not work with Norma brass unless you open up the hole or use a smaller pin. |
