nailman, this company made a product called forrest cleaner.
the company had to replace more than forty barrels that were destroyed by it.i think the product ewas ok but not used properly. the product performed as advertised. people were putting it in and leaving it overnight and not oiling the barrel after its use. i talked to the guys at sierra ,they were testing the new product wipe out. call them!

I like the idea of a .17 cal NEF but don't want a non-reloadable rimfire. Is it possible to buy the .17 HMR barrel designed for the NEF Sportster, ream it to .17 K-Hornet or .17 Mach IV, and install on a Handi-Rifle frame? Would a barrel from an Sportster rimfire even fit on a Handi-Rifle frame, or are they machined differently? How would the extractor be modified? I don't have an NEF in front of me at the moment and can't remember what the exctraction system is like. Since the .17 K-Hornet and .17 Mach IV are both centerfire, the firing pin setup wouldn't have to be modified on the Handi-Rifle. Can anyone find any possible problems with this idea? The .17 HMR barrels are 22" long, so they should prove ideal lengths for these efficient cases. Thanks. PS: Just to make things clear, I do NOT want to put a rimfire barrel on a centerfire reciever or vise versa. A few people I've asked got that out of my question. I want to ream a rimfire barrel to a centerfire cartridge and install on a centerfire reciever.

get a T/C Contender carbine instead of an NEF?? The T/C can handle any of the .17s, and barrels are available from a variety of sources (T/C, SSK, VVGC, Bullberry, VanHorn, Bellm, etc.). The NEFs I've handled struck me as a really low-end gun with a bad trigger to boot. I wouldn't waste the time or money it would take to do what you're considering. If you'd like a repeater, get a bolt-action CZ in .22 Hornet, and rebarrel it to .17 Ackley Hornet for a much better firearm. George
