Would it make sense to put these bases on all my future encore barrels so it would easyier to change scopes? would they stay accurate? |

I have some Warne lever rings on a Kimber 221 fireball, they are very nice, but heavy. They do not go back to exact zero every time, very close but not exact. |

I use leupold QR base and rings on my Encore and contender barrels I use then cuz if I am doing LD on a barrel I grab a high power scope and put it on I have had vvery little POA change, but the base and rings are 60+ a set, that is the bad thing with them JD |

Howdy, I am a Weaver cross slot freak. If they are good enough for the military, they are good enough for me. I have been using them since the 60's. I have a number of rings that I experiment with in my retirement fun. The best one I have found are ARMS double lever model 22. GUARANTEED return to zero. Good looking (to my ,military eye), and the scope comes off easier than any other I have tried.
The Mil-Std-1913 rail slots are a bit wider than the usual ''hunting'' base slots to accommodate slightly larger cross bars in the military rings. I also believe that it is a method to make you buy the wider, and much more expensive ''tactical'' bases. I widen my ''hunting'' bases with a Dremel. i also use Leupold QRW's, and the old standby Weavers. Happy trails, Barry |

I'm considering having 223 brass formed to 17 Mach IV and was wondering what 223 brass to consider. I know I will have to do some neck turning and I'm looking for a casing that has a uniform thickness. Lapua 223

Phil it is not worth the effort. I have considered the same thing. Buy the 221 fireball brass from Midway. You will also need a form die to use it as an itermediate step before going into the full length size die. The Remington brass seems to be very uniform. I fire formed 500 rounds then turned the necks to uniform them. It was quite a process. But well worth it. I have been using the same lot of brass for 8 years and it is still fine.
Your friend, Chucker. |
