I've been looking to get myself one of these in the future, and was wondering as to the advantages/disadvantages of each. I don't need the velocity of a Mach4 or 17 Rem, as this gun will mostly be used for foxes, treed coons, pd's, birdvarmints, and only occasionally yotes. I am open to suggestions and the shared wisdom if the masses. Thanks, Travis

the first question thart needs to be addressed is what action you are going to use. there are lots of actions around for a 17 ah(ruger77, charles daly, cz brno thompson contender ect) the 17 bee is a different story your kinda stuck with a ruger no 1 a contender or rampro. either cartridge will do what you want. don't for get the 17 hee bee which is another most excellent cartridge.the 17 bee and hee bee will have more whomp on coyotes. thats not to say the 17 ah is not up to it. i killed five yodes one day with my 17 ah.

I have two 17 Ack Hornets and a 17 Ack Bee and a 17 HeBee. The Bee case is stronger so last longer. Both are super accurate and wouldn't want to be without either.

What is the price on a new Cooper in this cal? What would a fair price be for a used Cooper in this cal? Would it make sense to buy a Cooper rather than go to the time and expense of building a MachIV? pros and cons on the last question. Thanks, OD

Coopers 2002 retail price is $995 for varminter,$1100 for a classic. I have a 17 in the classic that shoots tiny little groups. Very nice guns, cheap to change barrels, and they stand behind their product.Draw back is its a single shot, if you do your part you only need one anyway. If you do the math, with a custom your going to be very close if not over on the cooper rifle. Although you will have a gun exactly like you want it, fits you like a glove, and if the smith did his part the accuracy will scare you.The coyote wont know the difference, just your wallet. I paid $850 for the classic Cooper with Talley rings and bases. If you do sale the custom rifle it can be tough to get money out of it,and the cost of a customo nly hurts for aliitle bit. Tough question!

"My new Cooper .17 Mach IV is looking good"; I just got this gun three weeks ago and it shoots better than any of my other 28 rifles. George
