Does anybody have one of these? I'm going to customize my 17 Rem BDL and am thinking of this. It will still shoot factory ammo, will be a little faster and no case growth. Just no competition dies from Redding is the only disadvantage I can think of.
Thanks , Kurt

Kurt,
You might want to think long and hard before switching to a .17 Rem improved. Additional cost and no real performance gains.

I agree with Corbin, if you are after more speed shoot some 20 Hornady VMAX's. They will scream out of a 17 Remington.

I would like to shoot 25-30 gr. bullets, maybe make them scream. The blue dot loads are intriging,(20 gr V-max). And I can justify customizing only one rifle now- in time and money. I'd love a MACH IV or even the Tactical 17, but they are specialists. The 17 remington seems to answer it all! I just needed a reality check, thanks for the prompt replies.

Kurt,
Keep in mind you will only be able to drive the 30gr about 3750-3800fps before you experience bullet blow ups. Given you shoot about 25-30 shots between cleanings. They can be driven a little faster if you clean more often but often accuracy suffers. Velocity is not the answer/cure to everything. Corbin

Corbin, I'll probably be bothering you more often as this project comes together. As far as velocity goes, I'll take what I get. I'm not going past a 25" barrel. This rifle will be my ground hog gun. I need it to be easy handling for snap shots. The more I look around the more the 17 remington is what I'm looking for.

Kurt, You may want to look into the 17PPC. This case has 10% more case capacity. It will move the 29/30 grainers at 4200-4300. 4250 is where I start to get sticky extraction. There is great brass to work with, but more initial rifle work to be done. And with a 20gr V-max it's a laser well past 300 yards. Good luck! jh

I want one and can't find one I want the cheap 17v Marlin. If anyone knows where I can get one that actually has it IN STOCK let me know thanks. This is the perfect gun for me low noise and decent out to 150-175 yards. Was going to get a .22WMR but this seems better. Cant use one of the "wildcat" cartridges because I don't reload.

Come to think of it, that was one of the reasons I started shooting wildcats and reloading. I had a hard time finding and liking what I did find. Ya I am a picky bastard sometimes. O well good luck in your search. You might want to call Marlin's shipping department and find out where they have reciently mailed some. Just a thought.
Your friend, Chucker.

I have had a very hard time locating one for a friend of mine. I have the 17V model and am very fond of it thus far. I hope to shoot a few chucks now that the Hay has been cut.

Yes they are getting ready to mow here in PA/NY in about 2-3 weeks. I would like to reload but don't have the time or space. If I had a basement or garage I would but I have a "ranch" style house on a slab and a "car port" for a garage. This room my computer is in is the only "extra" room in the house. As far as money goes I am restoring a 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner a 60's muscle car and if you have done this or know someone who has it takes all the spare money I have. I got some birthday money and just wanted a "cheap" Chuck gun this is why I was looking at the Marlin 17V. I may end up getting a NEF singleshot in the 17HMR.

I am going to run about 50 rounds through my newest 17AH in the morning. The gun is so fun I did not 'shoot one, clean' for the first 17AH I built. THIS ONE has a converted 17 Rem/Rem 700 barrel that appeared new in the throat/bore. The AH seems so mild compared to the 17 Rem, is is still important to clean frequently for the first 10 or 20 shots? I have test fired two shots and cleaned after each in the shop. I see a smidgen of copper color at the muzzle. What was even more evident was all the powder fouling (AA 1680) with each shot. It's hard to clean after each shot/3 shots when a new rifle is begging to be used. Opinions?! thanks, alan in ga.

Gosh Alan, I have two of the 17 Ack Hornets and use moly exclusively. Clean the powder out about every 50-75 rounds, that it and I never broke the barrels in. Mine are Coopers and a Rampro.
I shoot the 17 Ack Hor, 17 Ack Bee and the 17 HeBee and never broke one of the barrels in.
The Rem may be a little rough so you may need to break in. If you want to sell it, e-mail and we can talk. I just love the 17's. What action are you using?

and it was so much fun to shoot this morning on it's first time out I couldn't stop even if I wanted to! First 3 shots on target at 90 yards(thought I was at 100) went into 0.365" so I am a happy camper! Several other 3 shot groups averaged 0.310" to 0.485" and a few 5 shot groups went as large as 0.890"----let's just say I am HAPPY with the CZ 527/17 Ack Hnt project!
Background info: took new 22 Hornet barrel off New CZ 527 rifle. Bought a 'take off' Rem 700 24" sporter barrel in stainless(with blue color finish Remington put on early barrels)for $47.50 shipped. This barrel looke to be unused after looking at throat area of bore. Chamber of 17 Rem was cut off at shoulder area. Outer diameter turned to 0.995" to CZ size as CZs do not have an outer 'shoulder' as most bolt action barrels do. Threaded on friends metric capable lathe, cut chamber with Clymer rougher/finisher reamers, crown to 90degree muzzle 'face' with 45 degree 'lips' only slightly larger than bore opening. (I like the strength of the 45 degree 'edge' compared to dragging bristles over a sharp 90 or 89 degree edge). Load up 50 20 grain V maxes over 11.7 grains of AA1680 (#13 rotor with RCBS Lil' Dandy powder measure). These groups were all from this fireforming load. Yup, I'm happy. This is #2 17AH rifle based on CZ 527,,,,,,,NEXT! alan in ga.

I would give the 17 Rem. barrel a good scrubbing first. Then go to a 20 gr. molyed bullet and shoot the heck out of it. You can get about 200 rds in between cleanings. FYI
