H-414 loads for .17 Remington | ![]()

howdy, in an earlier post I asked for suggestions for powders for my new/used .17 Remington. It is a blued Savage short action with a low mileage 22 in Sharp Shooter Supply Douglas barrel.
The deal included RCBS FL and seating dies, Lee neck collet and seating dies, 150+ cases, 800 bullets, cleaning rod, etc., so I am almost ready to rock and roll. .
2. ball flows so well in my RCBS measures that I will never buy any more tubular when what I have on hand is gone (which is a LOT since I buy by 8# kegs]. 3. the .17 Remington, from what I read, seem ''spikey'' pressure wise, so many weight each charge. I believe I can get by with accurate drops in my RCBS measures since they vary very little with either H-414 [22-250AI40*] or H-335 [.223R ]. the Varget gets a little ''cutty'' on the granule, so I will use it up in my 22/250 standard. I would appreciate any comments you' all might have on H-414 in the .17 Remington with 20, 25 grain V-Max and 30 grain Berger bullets. Thanks in advance, Happy trails,, Barry aka Jumper |

Howdy all, was at the local gun shop today and one of the new marlin 17hrm's followed me home. I love marlin rifles and just couldn't pass it up being the only one here. should be a fun little plinker. I was wondering if any of you guys had any idea's on shortning the mags so they are flusd with the bottom, or nearly so? I remember seeing a post on the ggvg board a while back about making it a 4 or 5 round mag , but can't seem to find the person who posted it yet. It seems easy , just wondering if there any tricks to making it work. Thanks Oh yeah , good article in PS there Jim ! I just finished reading it. |

Yeah, posts get buried so fast on GGVG that it is hard to keep track of them without dedicating a bookmark to it. Try going to RimfireCentral.com and ask there on the Community board,
Open Rimfire board, Marlin board http://www.rimfirecentral.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=marlin;action=display;num=1019082900 and the 17 rimfire board. The MarlinTalk.com site has also had that info posted on it. |

Drifter:
Shoot me an e-mail and I'll send you instructions on how to shorten the marlin mags. I have done many of them and hand this info out free on the Marlin site. All that is needed is a good ruler, a vise, a hacksaw, and a file. ~Andy |

Can it be used in 17 AH? Thanks Paul |

Paul, be careful of the fast burning powders. Yes it is true you can use any powder in any cartridge and make it go bang. What you want is a powder which will give you a good loading density which means the case will be just about full when a max load is reached. If you use some of the read fast powders you run the risk of double charging the cartridge. Which is very very dangerous and needs to be avoided at all cost!!! Find a slower powder like H4227 or someting about that burn rate, this will allow the loading density you need and may keep you safe. If you are hurting for load data tell us we can probably help.
Your friend, Chucker. |

I can't wait to try the Blue Dot loads in my 17 Rem! I was looking thru the past postings on blue dot and found just what your looking for in your 17 Ackley Hornet.
On 12-21-01 Dan C says he uses 3.0 grains of Bullseye behind a 15 grain Berger that chrony's at 2200 Fps. I assume he uses a mild primer like the CCI small rifle benchrest. Gut Fahrmintschutin, Kurt Achenbach Modified by Kurt Achenbach at Thu, May 16, 2002, 22:00:29 |

Browning 22h to 17AH,what barrel is best to use? | ![]()

Im considering changing my 22h to 17AH on my Micro Medallion. What barrels should I look for to do this change. Any experience like the rem to cz swap. If anyone has done this with a new barrel or used what smith has a good reamer and experience with a Browning? Ive heard that Browning uses a glue or Loctite stuff to set the barrels and they can be hard to remove to the point of twisting the action. Any truth to this? Thx guys,,, |
