Hello all, I stumbled on a project gun the other day, picked up an Anschuts target rifle , model Mark 2000. I got it at an auction for $25 , couldn't pass it up. The only carch is I need a bolt and sight set for it, any idea's? I tried e-bay and gunbroker with no luck. I would like to find some used parts if possible. I think its going to be a fun project , small bore compititions are pretty big at the local range , maby I'll give it a go, or atleast learn something. Thanks |

range report , marlin 17V | ![]() | ||

Hello all, lucked out and was able to grab up a marlin 17V last week and a carton of ammo. so far its more pricy to shoot than my 17 rem , 10.79 a box here in AK. It works out the same if I order it by the carton and pay the $30 hazmat shipping fee. ouch!! I gave the rifle the usual accuracy tune up before firing a shot , polished the bore and trigger job. I held off on bedding it as I will be carving a stock soon for it. The barrel was nicely floated from the factory as well. I mounted a burris 3x9 that was laying around the reloading bench and scrounged some millet rings for this temporary set up. (have better rings and a v16 on the way) The temp was about 60, light 5kt wind. All groups were 3 shots @100yds, four by me and two by my buddy. he did shoot the smallest group with MY new toy @##!! Another test was an apple and an orange at about 80 yds, impressive for sure. vaporized both . the apple was nothing but skin bits , and the orange was a 20' circle of tiny chunks, I wouldn't have believed it if I diddn't see it, that little vmax is a sweet little explosive bullet at just the right speed it seems. I diddn't measure any of the groups , but when they are this tight I am a happy camper. Now just need to import some chucks to the island , the off season is a killer for a varmint shooter here. I definately love the rifle, will post some more pics when the stock is done. sorry , the pic only lasts a few days with my server. ![]() |

This is another marlin, mod 25N. Just about the same rifle, I think I will carve a stock similar to this one for the 17V. I did this one out of some fiddle back maple , with an ebony tip. super comfortable stock.

Thats some carving you did. Good looking stock that makes a rather plain gun look great. I saw the pics on GGVG and was certainly impressed with the groups, were they at 100 yards? Certainly impressive. I haven't shot mine on paper since the trigger improvements, but can't imagine that it wouldn't get better now. |

Thanks jim, It was quite a bit of work , but well worth it . I like those marlins. I have about three rifles in line for stocks here, but the weather is way too nice to be in the shop lately. Yes the groups were at 100yds. I think the trigger work will definately make a big difference, the polished bore makes anything shoot better also. I think it will be a real shooter once I stock it and bed the action and get some decent glass on it I am in love with this little rifle, and for once the factory ammo is a great idea, boat tailed v-max. I wish they would either sell the bullets or come out with a 20 or 25 g v-max boat tail ,that would be sweet for a m4 or 17 rem . see ya

Drifter, Uhhh...You shouldn't be paying a HazMat fee for rimfire ammo. Only bulk gunpowder, centerfire ammo, and primers (hence the centerfire ammo) fall under the required HazMat handling fee. Just thought I'd pass it along for future reference... MarinePMI |

I just called mid south, they have a good price for the 17hrm, and that's exactly what they said, since it comes ups second day to AK and goes by air there is that $30 fee on top of what the ups is. so far everyone I have tried has given me the same quote. Maby its different if it can go ground, but most places wont ship ammo ground to Here. maby I need to try someone else , any idea's?? Thanks

Heh, Kodiak island, AK. UPS ships here, they won't ship UPS groun tho, so it has to be second day and I think that's where the problem is. Its a hassle for me to get any of the good stuff, primers,wood finishes anything considered hazmat. I am stuck with what is sold locally. |

Read your post on using H322 with th 20gr VMAX. What primers were you using for this load? What do you think of starting 18 grains and working up .3 tenth? Or maybe fine tune down to .2 tenth above 19 grains? |

Sorry Phil I blew up my computers power supply, so its been down a while, did not want you to think I was ignoring you. If you work up in .3 grain increments this would be fine. I have been using Remington 7 1/2 primers for as long as I can remember they just make a rifle shoot better. I have a picture for you. This is my 17 Mach IV, it is my sweethart and it has had about 1000 rounds through it, and it will still dot i's. ![]() |

Kurt the barrel is a 24" SS Shilen and if i remember right the barrel contour is close to a rimfire #9 Shilen. This contour is as close to the original contour of my Sako's PPC barrel. It is a tad on the stout side, kinda wish it was fluted. It rides the bags real nice and is great off hand. This rifle I built myself and was kind of a labor of love. The stock is a Claro walnut AA stock from Richards Micro-fit. The action is a Sako and all the machine markes have been polished off. The rifle is about 10 years old and still shoots great.
Your friend, Chucker. |

Went to the range Sunday to test your 17M4 with the Hornady 20gr VMax load. Worked up from 18.0 grains and found that 19.6 grains looked good for me. Groups started to open up at 19.8 gr. I used CCI 400 primers but will probably retest again using Rem 7 1/2 this time. Primers just barely starting to flatten at 19.6 and extraction isn't bad either. |

Do not tell anyone, because if they new how much fun this is they might try to make it against the law. When you get time find a cronograph and find out what the velocity is. I suspect it will put a smile on your face.
