With 20 grain bullets, somewhere around 10.0 grains will be a top end load. The stuff is very fast in the 17 AH. I didn't get very good accuracy with it, and didn't like the low filling ratio of only around 65%. It might work better for you, but I feel other, slower powders are better suited...... Dan C

cook they are not on my list of combos to try again. i had better luck with aa 5744,2200 and 2015 in my guns. 12 gr of 5744 old lot gave 3563 wit .50 acc 25 gr starke. 14.3 aa 2200 gave 3950 fps with a 20 vmax, max in my gun.13.0 gr of 2015 with a 30 gr berger was 3260 fps. i have killed coyotes with all three of these loads. none have ever run a step after being hit. 12 gr of n120 with a 20 vmax gave 3368 whick is low vel. but it shot a .113 in 5 shot group.
3368 isn't very impressive until you compare it to a 17hmr at 2550 fps , aprox. 800 fps faster and its reloadable and coat about the same or less.

It might not be popular to say so, but I agree with your comment about the 800 fps faster and being reloadable with the variety of powders and bullets that are out there. But I guess there's enough room for everyone. Thanks for all the load data you've been putting on. I shoot most of what you have and kept the rest for future reference. Do you put much stock in the K Hornet versus the Hornet?

i have found the 22 k hornet to give higher velocity as well as more accurate. the five degree sholder on the hornet just isn't conducive to good burning of powder. 13.6 gr of w296 will give you about 3250 with a 35 gr v max, the same load in my k hornet will give 3421. the guns are exactly the same except one is a k, both shoot .50 groups with this load. the guns are a pair of ruger 77/22 hornets with sights.

I'll post my Lil'Gun results. I guarantee you if I shot bob's 11.0 grain load there would be no primer pocket left! These are with W-W brass, WSR primers, and bare 20 gr. V-Maxes........ 9.4 gr. LG, 3675 fps.
9.7 gr. LG, 3776 fps.
10.0gr. LG, 3844 fps.
10.3 gr.LG, 3960 fps., loose primer pockets! These are from a Cooper 38..... Dan C

dan i have two 17 ah and i have to be careful not to grab the wrong box of ammo. one gun was built by wessinger it is below minimun spec. i had to have neil jones make a special set of dies for it. the good thing is the gun that uses 11.0 gr of lil gun won't fit in the wessinger gun unless i use the jones dies, thats my safety net.

Hey Bob, I had a Wessinger built Ruger too, he does nice work. My particular gun would only take about the same load as my current Cooper. People with the small 17's just need to remember that little differences in components make big differences in pressure. Powder lot numbers, bore diameter, etc. make a huge amount of difference in the tiny 17 AH. I once had to reduce my load .3 grain when I cracked open a new jug of 1680, the new stuff was noticeably quicker. Still, it's hard to have more fun that these little bombs provide! Shoot small ones, Dan C

I am getting very good results/accuracy, but it takes 5 patches to get past 'black'. Friend loads short cut 4198 with very good accuracy, too. I'm new to this 17AH,,but DEFINATELY ADDICTED! Most fun I've had with a rifle new caliber/cartridge that I can remember and I'm 51. I have only been monitoring this site for a couple monthes, so if you know of 'good ol loads' that have been posted in the past for 17AH,,,let me know. I and mine are going to Montana next week. I have 500 rounds loaded so that will last me maybe one day. Guess I'll pick up the 10/22 while the 17AH cools. alan in ga.
