Bob: I've never had that happen to me, and can't recall ever reading about a situation where more powder equals less velocity. It would seem that if a powder is so slow that incremental additions cannot be burned in the barrel, the velocity essentially would plateau at a certain level and the unusable powder would be blown out the barrel. In your case, however, the velocity is actually dropping with the additional increments. I can't imagine how, unless the additional powder in some way prevents proper ignition. Enigma it is. Try a small rifle primer and/or a magnum small rifle primer, but I'd start low and work up again. |

Bob, I've experienced the exact same thing with Lil'Gun in the K-Hornet, and it's more pronounced with light bullets. Other people have reported the same strange results. Lil'Gun does not burn uniformly with light bullets IMO. There are always exceptions as I do know some people use LG with the 35's with good luck, but not me. I have tried all manner of primers with no improvement. Heavier bullets like the Hornady 45 grain show much better consistency and the expected velocity gains with Lil'Gun. 40's work much better than the 35's too. I've played with the 35 and 33 (green tip) Hornady bullets and they are fun at close range, but due to their lousy BC the V-Max 40 just smokes them at anything over 100 yards. Even starting the 35 grain 300 fps faster than the 40, at 100 yards the 40 has caught up in velocity, and beyond that it simply runs away. Terminal performance with the 40 V-Max at 3200 fps is fantastic too, as good as the 35. For powders, I've found H-110 or Accurate #9 work great with the 35's........... Dan C |

Bob: In a 5mm thread just above this, I've noted that the latest Hornady manual does not list Lil Gun loads for the 35 grain bullet in the .22 Hornet, nor does it list Lil Gun loads for the 55 grain bullet. However, it does have Lil Gun loads for 40, 45 and 50 grainers, and I noted the loads in the thread. They use the Winchester Small Rifle primer for their tests. |

Hey Bob, how was the accuracy? Have you seen any trends in what case Lil Gun works and which one's it doesn't? Are you going to try it on your Bee?? |

cook the best accuracy came with 13 gr @ 3392 fps with a .557 group. lil gun seems to have a very flat pressure curve. i belive that 13.0 gr of lilgun is max for a 20 in barrel, extra barrel length might show a differant result. and yes i use lil gun on a regular basis in my 218 bee,221 fbiand my 17 ackley hornets.
15.5 gr lil gun 205f 35 gr vmax 3480 fps in 221 fbi 17.0 gr lil gun 205f 40 gr vmax 3550 fps in 221 fbi 14.4 gr lil gun 7.5rp 36 starke 3460 fps 12 218 bee ruger #1 15.5 gr lil gun 7.5rp 40 vmax 3550 fps in 218 bee ruger#1 14.9 gr lil gun 7.5rp 46 gr calhoon 3440 fps 218 bee .323" 10.3 gr lil gun 6.5rp 20 vmax 3840 in ruger 77/22 17 ahornet 10.9 gr lil gun 6.5rp 20 grvmax 3937 " " " 11.3 gr lil gun 6.5rp 20 grvmax 4058 " " " use with caution bob |
