I have a 17 hornet I use on chucks, and now will use for foxes and coyote. Shot 1 coyote with 20 grn V-max Not enough penetration in my view. But i found dead coyote 200 yrds away with my dog. The area I am shooting is tight so the hornet is about as loud as the people will stand for. Has anyone tried 25 grn bullets for coyotes in the 17 ackley? |

I have heard similar stories of the v-max when used on coyote. The hornet should be plenty if you limit your range and use 25 grain bullets. I have heard a lot of folks that use the 25 grain Berger Non-MEF. I have shot a Fox this year already with a 25 grain Starke and can tell you that the lights went out fast and I didn't get an exit. The thing never moved, just took a long nap. |
