I just had a 17 squirrel barrel made for my Ram Pro and was wondering what is the best hornet brass for this project. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Winchester brass is noted as being a little thicker than the Remington brass. I use winchester brass.

Jim,
Hopefully I will be doing some .17 testing this weekend. Going to shoot 600 and 1000 is the wind permits.
I have a question concerning you comment about Win hornet brass as being thicker. In reading your posting you implied that thicker is better. Why? The elasticity of brass is the same given the same hardness. Brass can only withstand so much pressure before it starts flowing.

Strictly case life. The concern is that if you shoot the ackley hornet and are shooting the max loads, the brass life may be shorter with the Remington. With the .17 squirrel, it may not be as much of an issue, since you are cutting the brass so far back. Hornet brass is pretty thin stuff to begin with, and after you go to the trouble of forming cases, tears may be shed if the case fails after 2 or 3 firings.
