Dear Mr. LaRue:
Thank you for taking the time to give us your reaction to the magazine and its contents. We value and retain all member input.
Watch our April issue for an article on several .17 caliber cartridges, written by a member who is an enthusiastic .17 caliber shooter. And later in the year (possibly our October issue but we don't know for sure yet) I will have an article that includes a .17 that I'm rather fond of ... the .17 Ackley Hornet.
Sincerely,
John Anderson
Executive Editor
The Varmint Hunter Magazine

Subject: Ned I was troubled by the article in issue #40 page #5 by Steve Timm...

Steve wrote that he did not see any real value in the sub-calibers because of blah, blah, blah. Steve also wrote 18 years earlier that his 17 Mach IV was the greatest thing on earth for varmint hunting blah, blah, blah. I shoot 4 different 17's, and I also shoot the .222, .223, 22-250, and the 220 swift. I really enjoy harvesting fur with the 17's because it does not throw the fur in 3 zip codes. I frequent another small caliber site at www.saubier.com , and there are at least a dozen answers that you should read by small caliber shooters to the Steve Timm article in issue #40 of TVHA magazine. I liked the VHA magazine the most during the early years because it was packed full of good varmint hunting articles like April 1993 issue #6 which has three seperate articles on 17's along with a host of other great varmint hunting stories. I liked the content of issue #2,3,4,5,6, and 7, but over the years the VHA content has changed to where I bet I do not even read half the magazine. I really enjoy reading the VHA magazine and look forward to getting each next issue, but I wish you would try to redirect the content back to what it was in the early years. I am Major Keith LaRue life member #978. I look forward to your reply. Thank you-Keith.

I am glad that John responded in such a timely manner but he sure didn't go anywhere near the issue of Steve Timm's fork tongued remarks on the .17's. I am glad to see that they will continue to publish .17 caliber articles but would feel better if they would publish some kind of addendum to his article. They are in a no-win situation and have to make the best of it. I appreciate the VHA publication and look forward to getting it. I will continue to do so at this time until I feel that the content is no longer worth reading.
