I saw on an old post you had a PTG Hornet Savage bolt head for a Savage build. Did you ever get that project completed?
I want to build a 17HH but I am concerned about extraction and headspacing.
PTG has not been helpful with this. They have never tested the hornet bolt head. They designed it around customer’s specs, sold a few and they assume it works as they never heard back from anyone. They don't know if any modifications are needed to get extraction to work but I cannot envision how the extractor can grab the rim when the rim is up against the breech without a slot for the extractor.
I read it was not possible to headspace off the rim using a Savage bolt head. Do you agree with that? I could headspace off the shoulder using a fired case, filling the case with epoxy to harden it up.
If you could kindly share your experiences I would really appreciate that.
