Way off topic but I'm computer illiterate and I have a question"
I started running "McAfee Livesafe" on my HP with windows 10. Started in last night about 1:50 AM in "full scan" mode. today at 11:20 AM it is at 11%. That seems Big Time, excessively long and slow, opinions?

That seems excessive to me. My laptop is pretty fast, an Intel core i7, and a Norton quick scan takes about 5-6 minutes and a full scan takes about 2 hours. A lot depends on how full the hard drive is and how much RAM is in the computer.

If you just installed it and you have a lot of data stored, it could take quite a while for the initial scan since it is scanning everything. Subsequent scans usually only scan anything new or things that have been modified. Still seems like a long time but if it is progressing, I would let it finish.

Wow Doug's back!!
Thought you fell in a hole up there. How's things besides this? |
If your Version of McAfee AV has the Check Box “scan with minimal resources”, then make sure it is unchecked.

Anti virus software is like having a virus. And its pretty much worthless other than the fact that it will tell you everything is a virus even if it isn't. Just something to think about.
Malware is another story. Point is I wouldn't stress over it. Just stop it and restart it in quick scan mode. |
Yes - that's an idea. I use Bitdefender firewall, anti-virus and anti-malware on my desk-top and phone.
I like it better than the others. I don't trust Norton - had trouble with them in the past on billing and wasn't too impressed with McAfee either - but that was a long time ago. With Bitdefender, it takes about 15 minutes to do a complete scan. |
Another Bitdefender user here.
