George U. would be the one to answer this. I've heard any more than .006 sizing and you start to loosen up the jackets.

@ luke
Are you talking sizing finished .20 cal bullets down to .17?
Or "simply" resizing cal. 20 jackets then finishing them as cal .17 bullets?

Good point if you are drawing jackets than yes draw die and punch, if bullets than no I know I have read somewhere that they are reducing bullets they will reduce but core bond will be broken ie really bad accuracy....

Way back, Rick N and Wild Bill were making 19 cal from 20 cal bullets. They were finding .006 was about max reduction. Calhoon swages down a 20 cal plastic tip bullet to 19 cal. Not sure if it is Nosler or Sierra. I believe Corbin made Ric's die, maybe he'll jump in and give better detail.

If you are sizing bullets from 20 to 17 - NO that will not work, the sizing will but you will have junk that will not shoot.

20 cal jackets to 17 - YES works great, we do it all the time.

.20 to .17

Not always, over the years many have swaged one caliber down to another and they work/worked just fine. The closer the two diameters are the better, but it will and can work. Bill K:)
