Ruger No 3 in 20 Ackley Hornet
Some of you may enjoy seeing my latest project, a Ruger No 3 with No 1 wood in 20 AH. Doug and I have been working simultaneously on similar projects, and I appreciate his help
My 22 Hornet turned out to have a bad barrel so I had a PacNor Super Match crome moly 3 groove 1/12 turned to the factory contour and fitted PacNor. They did a great job and turned it around in less than the 8-10 weeks quoted. I rust blued the barrel myself and it turned out pretty nicely. The buttstock is English walnut purchased off Ebay as a rough turned partially inlet blank. I'm still not totally finished shaping and finishing it, and may have it checkered some day to match the factory forend. http://i1306.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9idjnuv7.jpg http://i1306.photobucket.com/albums/...psfox61m8x.jpg So far I've just worked up fire forming loads and tested a few powder bullet combos for speed. Looks like I'll be fire forming with 32 Vmax and Lilgun at about 3050 and formed loads with A1680 at 3250-3300. http://i1306.photobucket.com/albums/...psf8igqcfe.jpg Here are some targets from yesterday, all 100 yd. These are a few load combos that show promise once I get the dies made. Right now the priority is 300-400 fire forming loads to use on a PD trip in a few weeks. :D. Hope you enjoyed. Larry |
Looks like its gonna really shoot! Nice looking wood too.

Larry congratulations, the PD's are going to be in trouble for sure. I like the look of the #3 lever on the #1 stock. You just made Doug go into Warp Speed to finish his.

Thanks, Ray! I really appreciate all your suggestions and offers of help during this project.
Yas, Doug is excited to be working on his. We've had a lot of fun with this one. Can't wait to get it out to visit Skippy! Larry |
I'm really liking that.
