WOULD ANYONE have any .1724" x .598"OAL SPBT solid copper bullets manufactured for Fred at Bullberry ? Is there anyone willing to sell a box?
Update: Well, gents, found some. http://www.saubier.com/forum/picture...pictureid=1052 |
In a word (well two words)... good luck.
I see you also sent me a PM about this, so I'll tell you the story right from the horses mouth as it was conveyed to me via a reply to your PM. |
Solid copper bullets won't shoot very well in most rifles. The copper bullet is to hard and will not exspand in order to seal the gases behind it. Not all 17 cal. barrels are the exact inside dia. so the bullets may work in one barrel but not the other unless you get lucky. I have some solid copper bullets made by a different bullet maker and they don't work in any of my rifles. The bullet maker was aware of the problem and stated if i wanted to continue to use them i would have to run a couple of soft lead slugs through my barrel and then he could turn the bullets to that dia. and then they should work.. I don't think he is in buisness any longer..

Well, we will see how these run in a 17VHA.
I now have three different solids, no HP, no lead, just straight Cu with a point. Accuracy with the 17gr at the top has been the best, the 19gr drills targets as large as boar and I haven't recovered any of these from game. The 25gr at the bottom here has a long history I suspect going back to the Army BRL as I found some examples of it loaded in a necked down 5.56x45mm case at Frankford Arsenal. Bill K, Yep those Lehigh Defense 18 and 20gr hp fb lathe turned bullets perform quite well. 17gr unloaded http://www.saubier.com/forum/picture...&pictureid=516 Loaded in 17VHA 40° 9.2GR 300X http://www.saubier.com/forum/picture...&pictureid=513 19gr in a 17FB http://www.saubier.com/forum/picture...&pictureid=633 25gr unloaded http://www.saubier.com/forum/picture...pictureid=1052 |
.172 Solids
Closest I have come to these would probably be the one's put by Lehigh defense. They have worked pretty good. Bill K :)

You could try...
Lost River Ballistics in Idaho. They made a solid that was the shape of the Berger
37 but weighed 32 grains. It shot ok in my 17PPC,but not as well as the Berger. Can’t remember if they had a lighter offering. Matt |
Matt,
I bet they all made it to the target unlike the Berger! Aaron |
