Kevin, I can almost see the grin on your face when you wrote that.;)

But you know what, it must have twitched a couple brain cells in my head. What happens to a bullet right after it leaves the rifling? Does it expand thermally? Does it expand due to centrifugal force? Or both?

When the bullet swages into the rifling it probably grows in length a small amount and when it leaves the rifling it snaps back elastically some smaller amount?

Probably good questions for VarmintAl.

Is ole Al still kicking? After you reminded me of him, I went to his site and it looks like it was last updated in April, maybe?

I looked at Foxhunter's picture of his chuck and got to wondering. Was the color right. Went out to shop where I have Vermont Woodchuck and Montana Yellow bellied Rock chuck mounts.

My Vermont chuck has similar color hair but no tinges of red hair around the leg like Foxhunters.

On the other hand the the Montana rock chuck is reddish without a doubt. Nothing like Foxhunter's chuck at all.

So what was catching my eye? Then I realized, I have that same tailgate on my truck.

That's the difference the size. My chuck is only 15 slots wide, Foxhunter's chuck is 17 slots long, two slots longer than mine. CTC on one slot is 1-1/4". My chuck was huge for a Rock chuck and weighed 17 lbs on a spring scale.

This thing Foxhunter shoot is a monster! Wow!

foxhunter 08-18-2020 09:16 PM

actually it was a medium size, shot one a couple years back that weighed 22 pounds.
