Todd Kindler's 17 caliber bullets? (in 23, 25, 27, & 30gr)
 

Hornady's (0.172") 25gr VMax seems to be at least an endangered species, perhaps extinct!
(And apparently, Hornady doesn't make a 30grain VMax in 17 caliber)

So, I'm looking for alternatives - accuracy, consistancy and certainly down range effectiveness on prairie dogs, etc. are all important considerations. Looking for feedback on these bullets - how do they perform?

Since I suspect several members here have send a few of Todd's bullets down range, would you please share your experiences - good, bad or ugly! Ok, not too ugly... :D

Any other 17 caliber favorites (greater than 20 grains) that you've found?

I am using the 30gr golds exclusively in my Tac. Very accurate, good so far on coyotes. No complaints other than price.

Just got an email from Midway with info that they have the .17 Vmax 25s in stock.

Thanks Hog Patrol - I never thought I would see those 25gr VMax for sale - feeling like a little kid at Christmas! I have a couple boxes on the way.

I forgot to ask about performance of 25 & 30gr Bergers - I guess also because I haven't seen these for sale all summer either.

Johninok - which powder are you pushing those 30gr Golds with?
(my 17 TAC is a 1:9 twist)

i am using Benchmark. Has worked great in all my 17 cals, and in my .224 cals, including a 9 twist 223 that I am using heavy bullets in. Pretty much my sub cal go to powder.

Just ugly news, 27gr golds that I took in a trade. I've tried them in 4 different rifles, both 1-9 and 1-10tw. If group size matters then I would put them in the turd category.

I sure hope the 25V-Max's are'nt going away....
 

They work very well in my 17's.If they do go away I've got lots of the Golds left.
The 27 Kindlers shoot very well in my 17Javelina and the 30's are incredible in my 17PPC.Chuck sorry to hear that your supply does'nt shoot well,can't imagine what the trouble is,perhaps seating depth?

I have put 1500 of the 30 gr golds through a 1 in 9 match barrel chambered in 17 tac. They were incredibley accurate on prairie dogs out to 600 yards until the barrel gave up. VV 140 and Varget worked well. Varget was better in hot weather. Rel 15 gave the highest velocity with the least amount of pressure problems, very accurate.

Just got the 27s loaded up in my 17 Rem after using Bergers in subsitute of the Kindlers for quite some time.

Kindlers are great. Kill coyotes like made and shoot very well. The 25 Bergers shoot well, but the kindlers are right there with them and better, and they have a much better BC.

I've used the 23gr and 27gr Kindlers. The 23gr are the most accurate bullets I've shot from my H&R 317. The 27gr shoot OK in the H&R and were excellent in my Cooper. The 27gr maybe a bit more sensitive to velocity and twist of the barrel. They are a very long bullet...
