20 Vartarg reamer print

I called JGS to ask about reamer prints for 20 Vartarg using Lapua brass. They sent me this newer one that Todd Kindler made available to the public. Anyone use this one? I was thinking about making the neck 0.235 to ensure no turn necks and changing the freebore to 0.0100 instead of the 0.0500 to accommodate 32 grain bullets.

If you have an alternative reamer print that works very well with LAPUA brass and 32 to 40 Vmax please let me know. I’m leaning toward using 32 gr but won’t know until I test.

Sorry, not sure why the image posts grainy and small.

The only difference "I Would Go With" would be ZERO freebore.
Built mine with a .234 neck. Used Remington Fireball brass, fired and some new.
The fired and made into 20 VT was all over the place. New, pretty consistent.
Rather than turning necks (:(), the .234 solved that problem.

I know nothing about how to read a reamer print. I do have a factory Cooper Model 38 in 20 VarTarg that will run Lapua brass with no alteration. My cousin also has a factory Cooper Model 38 that will not run Lapua Brass. His chamber is tight toward the rim of the case. Has nothing to do with the neck diameter. That's as much help as I can give regarding the reamer print. What twist barrel are you going to be using??? My 12 twist will not shoot a 40 grain bullet worth a darn. I'd suggest a 10 or 11 twist if you plan to shoot any 40 grain bullets. Just my $0.02

I agree. I had Manson make me a 20-223 AI reamer and I went with zero freebore. This won't work with long bullets like the 55gr's but I didn't want to shoot them in the 20 bore anyway. With light and medium weight bullets in a 20, zero freebore is just so much easier to work with if you like to touch the lands or keep the jump to a minimum.

The early 20 vartarg reamer dimensions had a smaller diameter at th .200 line which caused that issue. This one is larger at the 0.200 line and is for Lapua.

I’m trying to decide between 10 or 11 twist. Probably what I can find in stock.
