.20 Ackley Hornet prefered powders?? Lil'Gun??

Any powder preferences for the .20 Ackley Hornet with 32 grainers? We been talking Lil'Gun and/or 1680?? Anyone shoot one that has a fire-forming load that's gopher worthy??
Trying to cheat off someones homework here :o.
Only rounds I use Lil'Gun in is .22 Hornets and .22 K-Hornets, not so sure about it in cases with smaller holes down the pipe??

what speed are you getting from these

Don't have it back yet so I'm not sure. Guessing 3250FPS to 3350FPS tops? Todd Kindler show 3,400ish FPS in an old Small Caliber News article but Todd runs em hot in his testing sometimes. I'm sure not on a velocity quest with the lack of brass.
I'll be finding out soon :).

Doug, I would think almost a full case of 1680, 1maybe start at 12gr. and up to maybe 13.5gr. max. or for even better ballistics, perhaps from Lil'Gun - but not sure where to start with that one- maybe 9.8gr.? Just guessing probably max at around 10.5gr. to 11.0gr.?

I had one .17AH that maxed at 10.5gr. and buddy Brad's Martini used 10.8gr. for the same speed I got from 10.5. My current CZ barrel maxes at 10.2 with WW brass, 10.3 with RP brass.

I think probably starting with moderate loads for the .17AH, then testing from there due to the greater higher expansion ratio for the .20's larger bore.

20 hornet loads

Doug,
For what it's worth, I started with load data for the 19 hornet.
My 20 hornet is one that I built on a Remington 591 so I started low and worked up. 1680 works great for me but I have not choreographed for speed.

H110, 2400, & 4227 would be powders to also try. For a reduced load try around 6 grains of Blue Dot. Very quiet @ around 2000 fps. Makes a great yard pest control round.

Doug, when I get back in the hood I have to come check out the new gopher smacker! :D

Doug, I'll bet VhitaVuori N120 will make it sing!

Doug, I've had the best combination of accuracy and velocity with IMR4227. My FF load chronos at just under 3000 fps and my regular load ~3350. Lil'Gun was not as accurate for me. Hope that helps.

Marc
