CZ 527 22 Hornet
 

I am on the hunt for a 22 Hornet rifle and CZ is a top contender. However, I have read that some say their rifle will stabilize the 40gr VMax bullets and others say their rifle will not. What has been your experience with the CZ 527 American with it’s 1 in 16” twist and the 40gr VMax?

Hey Alan, I have one of those, too, and it seems to handle the 40's just fine.

Mine works great with 40gr VMAX.

Mine shoots 40 Grain VMax just fine, tremendous accuracy out to 300 yards.. The standard factory bullet for the 22H is a 50 grain so I would have trouble understanding how it won't handle a shorter and lighter bullet. Amazing the stuff you find posted on the net these days.:)

Dean which ammo offers 50gr bullets? I think the heaviest I am aware of is the 46gr Winchester which is a short bullet. Thank you.

My thoughts also, normally the standard factory heavy for the 22 hornet was the 45 grain sp. :)

You are right that most is 45 grains and that is the standard, not 50 grains. RWS and Norma both had 3.2 gram loads, which is very close to 50 grains. I have also loaded a lot of 50 grain Hornady SPSX in mine and never had any stability issues.

Thank you. I have read that the 50gr SX does well at Hornet velocity. It is good to hear that it stabilizes in your CZ.

My CZ Hornet shot the 50gr. SX just fine, with 13.gr. LG (RP brass) at 3,008fps iirc. I could look it up, but that's close enough.
My rifle also shot the 40gr. Ballistic Tip, which Nosler says needed a 14" ROT. However, I was getting well over 3,300fps with the LG load in RP brass, loads that will not fit in any other standard Hornet brass.
Amazing rifle & ctg. in THAT rifle. We found the same loads would work well in a Ruger M77.22Hornet as well as a TC Contender, both with 14" twists.
The Ruger would only do an inch at 100meters, but that was better than the 2" it did with normal Hornet loads.
The TC shot in the 3/4" range.
My CZ "Lux" shot sub 1/4" for 3-shot groups at 100 metes. The second CZ Hornet I bought did pretty much the same but didn't care which primer was used, rifle or pistol.
