With gas prices being plain stupid now, driving to prime GS country is getting spendy, so been staying close to home and doing a bit of rockchucking locally.

You'll all most likely remember Scootertrash here. Our dear departed friend Mike Hennessy from Lake George UT. This was his Cooper M38 20VT he sent me just before his passing. I promised Mike I'd take proper care of her and take her afield as much as possible, so I'm thinking Mike would approve. I only added the Leupy LR and a Jard 10 oz trigger.

Nice mornings for taking a rifle for a walk in the sage, junipers and lava rocks. With a few VT's in my pack with Nosler 32gr VG's over RL-7, lit by 7-1/2's in Lapua cases. Seems 'just right'.

Lately I've also been using my Cooper M38 Phoenix in 221FB to take advantage of it's synthetic stock when chucking in and around the lava rock. Sure don't want to goon up those nice Claro stocks on my Coopers or any other of my wood stocked rifles. These guys were from my 20VT outing.

There's a certain pleasure gained from little cartridges like the 20VT and it's brethren, and it only takes a nice morning in the sunshine on a walkabout to bring it home.

I am going to try and head over to central WA this coming weekend. We didn't even uncase a rifle or set up our telescope to look a stars at night over Memorial Day weekend, due to rain and cloud cover. Memorial Day weekend is usually set aside for chuck shooting with the kids in the mornings. We will get in perhaps another weekend of chuck shooting the 25th & 26th, then it pretty much wraps up in Washington for the season.

The last chuck shooting trip I made, May 21-23, I was burning a hundred bucks in gasoline daily. I'm set up at Sunland, just across the bridge from Vantage on the Columbia now. Which is better for a base than Ellensburg, but it's still a bit of a drive to where we shoot. Most of our shooting is 100 miles north or 100 miles south, about 90 minutes drive from there.

If I am going for longer than a weekend I will move the RV (Toy Hauler) closer, but if it's just a weekend I drive out in the morning and back at night or sleep in the back of the truck.

Rick, I'm glad to see that you've become a full fledged fan of the 20 VT.

I still remember all of the schrapnel that rained down on me, when on the then brand new 204 Ruger Forum, I made the simple statement that it - the 204 Ruger - was probably not the best 20 caliber cartridge available from my experience with the 20 VT.

Boy howdy........... It hailed hard, all coming from new 20 caliber fans that thought that I was out of my mind to disparage their favorite new toy...... :D

That was almost as bad as when I defended the young kid who posted that he was using the 204 Ruger to successfully kill excess deer on his father's ranch under a state issued "cull permit". I got hate mail for that issue there too. "Cull permits" are issued to ranchers who have deer running around in cotton tail rabbit numbers........ "Cull permits" have been issued to ranchers for years down here in an effort to control deer populations....

Lots of water under the bridge since. :)

I'd say your friend as well as the three sisters were looking over you on a fine day out and about.

I sure like my 20vt i have 5 of them now. My Cooper in a 204 is just a safe queen for the last 8 years. It’s right next to the 22-250s and the 223Ai lol.

I also enjoy seeing you shoot Scooters rifle.When I would travel the back roads in Colorado near Lake George I would often wonder where Scootertrash lived and hunted.I wish I had the opportunity to have met him and perhaps talk about Cooper rifles and varmints.One day in the not too soon future I will have to sell my two Cooper Vartargs,I hope they go to such a worthy home as you have given to Scooters rifle.I hope gas prices get better so you can keep up what you are doing,afraid Brandon is trying to coerce us into thinking EVs are good for the environment and push us into them by pricing us out of gas vehicles :(
