I've never built one, but Kindler had a write-up on the .20 Pup in his "Terrific Twenties" book. A friend of mine has the .22 Waldog version. It is an amazing little cartridge! I personally saw him take two PD's at just over 700 yds a couple of years ago in Wyoming...first shot! I was stunned for such a little cartridge it would even shoot that far. The thing is super accurate also. 410gauge

Yes, the 20 pup is a 6ppc shortened .173.I have a nice 6ppc but it's too much for shooting squirrels so thinking of re-barreling to something a little more reasonable. Like a fool I sold my older copy of Todd's book a few years ago. Thanks for the replies.

The 20 Pup is a great little case, I got interested after building Blakes 17 Lil Nasty. I had Eddie chamber a couple of barrels. Back then I had head space ga in full length, , .100, .125, 150 and 175 short in 30* shoulders. At the time the FL, .100 and .125 was nearly the same performance. The .150 and .175 short shot about the same at 300 yds but I thought the .150 had the edge. Velocity was close to the 204 Ruger. As usual I decided to try the 40* versions. That's what I settled on, the .150 short 40* shoulder version. Michael might remember shooting it at one of our early small caliber shoots. It was built on his old Farley/ Tracker stock. I think the 20 Pup is a better PD gun than Squirrel gun, just based off the volume of shooting you do at squirrels. Barrel heat and life also figures into it. The 20 Pup is great, you'll enjoy it for what ever you use it on.

Hi Ray;
I agree with you that it may be too much for squirrels but I am not a numbers guy. I would rather shoot 10 squirrels at 300-400 yards than 100 squirrels at
10-200 yards. I like the challenge. Would the 20 pup have a shorter barrel life than say a 204 ? Thanks for the info.

Dan I honestly don't know about barrel life of the 2 calibers. I've never been a fan of the 204 even though I've had 2 guns, I always felt Hornady should have brought out Todds 20 Tac. I've only shot my version of the 20 Pup probably less than 500 rounds before I went on to other cases. I will say if your 20 Pup shoots like mine, you'll be easily able to head shoot squirrels at 200 plus yds. Good luck.
