Slightly Off Topic....Vintage Scope Repair Question

Looking for someone to refurbish an old Balvar 8 from the 50's. It's mounted on a 1953 Winchester Model 70, and would like to keep the scope period for the rifle. It has the B&L external adjustment/mounts. The issue is there are all kinds of black specks on the inside of the lenses. I suspect that black stuff is the deteriorated seals? At one time there was a guy, Larry Weisz, in Eldridge MO that did that kind of work. Located him on Facebook, attempted to message him, so far no response. He had lots of good things said about him on other forums. His published phone number doesn't work, but was probably a landline from days of old. Would appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Steve

Wonder if you contacted Nazchez Reloading if they could help you find a place for repair. They sell a lot of refurbished scopes and might have a source. Just a thought. Bill K :)

Foster's,
I had that issue with the same scope a few months ago. I could not find anyone to repair it so I went to E-bay and found the same scope in perfect condition for less than the repair cost would have been. If I remember correctly there were several available for under 100.00.

Try "Ironsight". They may be able to help you. Definitely worth a chance.

Try Optical Services Co, Cheryl Ackerman 915-740-4290

Guys, thanks for all the suggestions.....Ironsight absolutely does not work on Balvar scopes....Cheryl Atkinson at Optical Services was very knowledgeable, the black specks on the inside of the lenses are, she says, are condensation on the lenses that are on both sides of the reticle. Says this is a very common problem and even if I do get a decent one on ebay, eventually it will succumb to the same issue. Her best advice was that if my customer wants to use this particular scope, simply learn to "look through the noise" so to speak, and that's about it.....the scope won't be perfect, but for general daylight deer hunting, still reasonably functional.
Thanks again,
Steve

If Cheryl Atkinson is out of either Arizona or New Mexico they repaired a Redfeild 6400 16X scope for me about 10 Years ago by replacing the reticle. Only used them once but everything was as it should be. foster's if your interested I have a less than perfect (cosmetic's) Balvar 2.5-8X and a fixed power 2 3/4X (looks basically new) that collect dust in my safe. They were clear the last time I looked thru them. Yours for the shipping.
