.224 valkyrie case info

Weighed 5 mt unfired cases out of the bag. 113.6, 114.2,113.5,113.6,114.3 grains. Added spent primers to 2 for 117.4 and 117.1 grains. weighed 2 fired .223 cases. 1 LC and 1 hornady for 95.4 and 95.7. Both fired .223 water cap ended up at 30.9 grains water -- level full --. The 2 unfired .224 valk weighed 31.4 and 31.2 grains -- level full -- fired .204 ruger = 32.2 water level full. The valk cases weigh around 18 grains more than .223. I wonder how much h20 cap the fired .224 valk cases will gain. http://www.saubier.com/forum/picture...&pictureid=981 This is a .223 and a .224 valkyrie with a 52 grain a-max at oal of 2.260. Think a .20 berger 55 might fit nice in a ar. Just spitballing.

or a 17 shooting 30gr texas golds....be about the flattest shooting AR!

I ordered a bullberry 17 form die and some 32 grain reeds bullets just to mess around for now. Found the fired h20 cap on u-tube. 32.2 grains

so why didnt you measure 224V case capacity in H2O?

Thats what everyone wants to know

....actually info needed is actual case capacity comparison to bottom of neck for 223 and 224V with most common powder likely to use say Benchmark or H4895 extreme

Here goes nothing. Ramshot tac - fine ball powder full to bottom of neck
.224 valkyrie unfired case = 30.5 grains .27" neck length 1.60" case length
.223 hornady fired case = 30.3 grains .203" neck length 1.76" case length
.204 ruger fired case = 31.4 grains
Did this with uncalibrated eyeballs and a flashlight. .224 valkyrie fired case is said to have about 1.3 grains more h20 capacity level full.

interesting data. so in essence they basically get .223ai ballistics but in a mag friendly cartridge.

so in a bolt gun it would still be wiser to just do a .223ai throated to maximize case capacity with what ever bullet you intend on running.

Sssshhhhhhh.... the marketing company doesn’t want the public to know that information 😏

That was my thought for a short mag length (2.260) and the long neck will keep bullet out of case. But their may be flies in the ointment. How ar 15 will handle press with .224 v case compared to .223 /.204 ruger? Thats the $$$$$ question.

well the 5.56 runs at 62,3xxpsi CIP so any case with that diameter "should" be the same. as we are hashing out in another thread there's more to it when talking about .223/5.56 and pressures.

6.8 spc (the parent case of the .224V) is rated to 58,700 CIP. those who followed the birth of this cartridge may remember the 6.8 spc having the same ammo/pressure issues as 5.56 in .223 chambers when the 6.8 SPC II was introduced which was nothing more than throating changes so the same differences were there. this was fixed early on so it's almost a pastime and there was someone loaning a reamer out to fix early chambers.

Sammi pressures for both are 55k psi for reference.

The 224 Valkyrie was designed for use in a AR. yes you can do better with a 223 Ackley in a Bolt gun. Also the 224 V uses less powder to do the same as a 223 and better in some choices of bullets. The 224 V. will put you pretty close to 22-250 in performance.
