17FB/MkIV and N130, N133

Search reveals nothing, anybody try and like N130 or N133 in the 17FB?

N-133

Which bullet are you loading 20gr - 25gr - 30gr ? I have some loads for N-133. N-130 is TOO fast burn.

Mostly 20 and 25 vmax.

I figured I'd be safe starting N130 at WP's LT30 min and N133 at LT32 min.

I do definitely like how many rounds per pound you get. Only cartridge I have that makes buying 1 lb'ers cost effective.

N-133

20gr bullet = start 16.0gr 3537 fps / 18.1gr 3984 fps 103% fill ratio
25gr bullet = start 15.0gr 3255 fps / 17.0gr 3653 fps 98% fill ratio
This is direct out of the BERGER reloading manual for VIT. N-133.
I prefer H-322 for my 17FB and my 17/23 SMc . Hope this helps. JCM24M

N133 is the only powder I use in two .17 FBs, a 20" PacNor 9, 3 groove and a 24" Lilja 9, four groove. I'm over 17 grains with 25 Nagels and 25 Kindler Golds, right at 17.0 with both of those in 30gr. Having tried every Federal, CCI and Remington primers, I settle on the CCI BR4s. Remington 7&1/2s in my rifle were the worst primers for pressure and accuracy.

I am shooting a 26" Shilen barrel Mach IV on a CZ action. 20g Vmax and VV133. Getting 4010 and good accuracy.

16.5g N130 LC brass 25vmax= 3650 24" bbl.

So N130 is close to LT30 in my 17FB.
(Oops, edit)

Just threw 10 rds together for scope zero, 3 shots for zero rest of them (7) touched no vertical some horizontal at 50 yds. Shouldn't take much load tuning. 3650 is fast enough for me.

BTW I was not comfortable with the avg neck clearance with the formed 223 brass so the brass got neck turned a scootch.

Mossberg MVP 5.56 action (AR mag), if you move the rounds to the front of the mag it feeds 100%. To the rear it does not feed well.

Looks like I found a use for that 1.1 lb Tubal 3000.

Mine is a 17MIV. I shoot nothing but 25's in that cartridge.....25gr. Hammett and 25gr Calhoon, both of which shoot really well but are no longer available. When they're gone it'll be plastic tipped 25's.

Powders that work best for me are VV135 and AA2230. A bit slower than what you'd probably think for that cartridge, but I've found that when necking down the 221 to .17, that's a much smaller hole and slower powder works better. For me. (Same with other cases). Primer test with 19.2 VV135/Rem 7-1/2=3879, with BR4=3919......19.4gr VV135/Rem 7-1/2=3926, with BR4=3959.

Best powder and most accurate load in that gun is AA2230/BR4......19.8gr=3986. Groups shrunk to .3's at 19.8gr, didn't go any higher.

Most accurate with 133 was at 18.9 (4054), with Rem.7-1/2. Less accurate than 2230 or 135. Didn't test BR4 with that powder.

Pacnor 24" barrel 10" twist. Tight chamber/.195nk, 0 freebore.

For that cartridge I'd go a little slower with powder......2230 works really well.

My biggest issue is case capacity using formed 223 brass, big difference between formed but not fireformed 223 brass and 221 brass. I can't get anywhere near book loads first fireform, don't care I can slow it down 300-400 fps and spend less time cleaning. Probably 2 grain difference. 18g N133 is to the top of the neck. Gotta use a notch faster powders.
