Looking for input on a 17 fb build.

Im having a 17 fireball built. I plan on having bob green do the work. The donor rifle is a remington model 7 cdl 17 fireball.
Here is my plan
Lilja barrel ,1:9 twist ,fluted , zero freebore , .204 neck
Trying to figure out a contour that would be .700 muzzle at 20"
For a stock looking at a H-S Precision® Pro-Series 2000 Varmint Stocks - Remington Model 7™

My plan for the rifle is a lighter walking coyote /calling coon /prairie dog gun. It will still need to be maneuverable for quick shots on coon running at me within 20 yards and be able to reach out a little for both dogs with good accuracy
What are your thoughts on barrel contours? .700 a good muzzle diameter? Too heavy? Too light haha?
What about my stock choices? Any better ideas? Any one have experience with the hs precision? Open to all ideas. Give me your knowledge.

I see we got you registered. Welcome. As for the model 7. I've used #2 contours to build a 20VT and 7TCU on two M7 actions. A little lighter than you are looking at. But instead of going heavier, I went a tad longer. I finished mine at 21 inches, still light but the weight forward makes it balance better. I think its perfect in fact, and as ready is great. I had a 20" heavier barrel in 223 on a 700 SA and while it was short, it didn't balance well, and lost a good bit of velocity to a standard 24" tube.

Good choice with the Smith too.

Have the tang opened up to accept the M700 screw. IMHO #3 would be a good contour at the length you're looking at. I have two of the HS PSS050 stocks and they're nice enough but I do wish they had a Sako style palm swell. Dress it up a bit with a Gre'Tan firing pin assembly. Looks like a fun project you're working with, good luck!

Lilja #3 contour ?

If you email Carson at Lilja and tell him about your project, I'm sure he will be able to help you select a contour. I think you will need 0.650 minimum barrel od for 1/2x28 threads.

Yessir, Lilja #3. Coyotespotter makes an excellent point, the folks at Lilja are mighty helpful.

Here is one of my 17 Rem's that is very similar to what you're going to do. I chose the remsport contour for the 22" Lilja but would have gone #2 or #3 to lighten it up a little more. A point worth noting, I had to remove quite a bit of material from the stock with this contour. http://www.saubier.com/forum/picture...pictureid=1590

I called lilja and placed an order
Went with a #4 contour, 1:9 twist, 21" finish length, and 7 flutes 9 twist

Bob builds a heck of a nice gun I've had him build a few, all are extremely accurate.
I had him build a 17fb on a mod 7 CDL 17fb that was one of two I pick up on a close out deal, the other I had him build a 20VT.
I'm sure you will be very happy with yours.

Thinking about going the manners stocks route.
Here's what im looking at having built except it will be inleted for the model seven. What's your thoughts? Does the configuration look good? http://www.saubier.com/forum/picture...pictureid=1598

17 Fireball

Going with the 9 twist will allow you to shoot the 25 gr V-Max for prairie dogs. Mine is a 10 twist and results in keyholing (sp?) using the V-Max. I have to use the Hornady 25 gr HP which is not as destructive, but much more fur friendly.
