When I lived in Thibodaux a few years ago, the best store was Jim's in Baton Rouge...and there's now a Cabelas at Gonzalez.....partway between BR and NO on I-10.....they may have one of their gun...

.17 Cal Bullets Question

I just sent my Cooper M21 to PacNor to be re-barreled to 17 Rem Fireball. The new barrel will be a 9" twist. My question is whether it will stabilize 30 gr. bullets? Thanks. George

This is the reply I got from Cooper:

You CANNOT rebarrel 6x45 to a Rem 17 Fireball. The Remington 17 Fireball is in another receiver (Model 38).

I suspect that Gary and others may be correct...

Cooper only offers the 17 FB in the M38.....and can't rebarrel the M21 to it.....a diff receiver.....per Cooper.

They definitely do 17 FB....in a M38, but the only 17 I see on the M21 is the 17 Rem. I sent them an email asking about it....will post when I have a response.

ae35gunner: you have a good point....I should check with them. I'd heard recently that Cooper was only re-barreling to calibers which they offer as part of their standard line up, and the .17 FB...

I've got a Cooper M21 in 6X45 that I'd like to have re-barreled to .17 Rem. Fireball. I might have it fitted to the action with my local gunsmith, but I'd like some suggestions on who I should buy...
