Ahhhh, yes! The light side is another way to go. I won a fair amount of wood with my 58 gr bullet on a .790 jacket.
BTW Randy, I still want to test some of your .22/52's in the Hornet. Nearly out...

Interesting....

13.0 gr. LG got me an average of 3089 fps. WW cases, fed sp, Nosler 40 gr BT.
Seems a bit high, and some of the cases were a bit hard to close the bolt on, and hard to extract. RCBS gold medal FL...

The bolt just kisses the barrel and the bolt recess is just a couple of thou more than the rim thickness so all is OK there. I really feel the chamber in my rifle is on the small side...like maybe a...

I also checked some PriviPartisan loaded ammo and it was .295+ at the base. If the chamber is a wee bit small, that would cause some difficulties.

Might have found the problem...

Did some carefull measurements and found the brass I was using was from the early 90's and measures .29510 to .29535 at the base. (Unfired) A recent lot that I have measures .29325 to .29340. I'm...

Good advise

I'll check a suspect case closely for any sign of out of round, and trim back another .005. I keep them at 1.395 now. And I'll get a battery for the chronograph.....haven't used it in years, but...

Powders

What powders are available for the hornet that give good velocities with stabile pressures? I thought the general consensus was that Lil'Gun was the "go to" powder for the Hornet, but I'm willing to...

OK

I have had the same thing with 11.2 gr loads when I first got this thing. Shouldn't I see some dimensional evidence on the case? With good head spacing I would think the case contraction after...

Ruger 77/22 Hornet sticky bolt...

This ruger will not close with a .002 shim in the bolt. So I feel the bolt in stock configuration is just fine. The rim recess is .065 and the WW brass has a rim thickness of .062. So far so good....

Get a smaller decap pin from a 6PPC. Die and leave that brass alone!!!
Where do you buy that brass? That would be a Godsend to the Hornet shooters! I was not aware of the S&B small flash hole! ...

Flash hole size

A friend shoots a fill size 30-30 (you read that right) in NBRSA Benchrest, and reduces the flash hole diameter by swaging it down with a die set he made. Internal and external setup to squeeze it...

Throttling up

We got 8" of snow yesterday, so I put together some test loads and hope I can test tomorrow.
12gr LG with Zia and Berger 52's, and 12.5 to 13 gr with Nosler 40 gr BT.
If I can get rid of the...

It never occurred to me to measure the bolt, so I did! It measures .062
I also measured some new Win. brass and found one that was .063 but most were .061 or .062.
With the sub .002 slop in the...

Thanks

I've installed a Volquartzen sear(very nice trigger pull) and floated the barrel. The bolt won't close with a .002 shim so the OEM is fine on that point.
I've been shooting ~1" groups so far,...

Bullet weight/load questions 22 Hornet

To start, I'm a Benchrest shooter and former Benchrest bullet maker, so extreme accuracy is my thing. You may ask why I'm interested in the Hornet? It's a challenge, that's why.
Couple of...

Powder measure

Anyone using the Harrell's Schuetzen/pistol measure for Hornet size cases? What kind of accuracy are you getting, and are there other measures out there that are as accurate or better?

Make some & shoot 'em

P1, Ya just have to keep experimenting and see what works for you. Different lubes, different amount of lube (that one is key), cleaning, etching etc.
Also keep in mind that your particular barrel...

I suggest using a fast evaporating lacquer thinner in a 5 gal. Bucket and the cores in a carburetor dip bucket. Swish them around for a few minutes then dry in a towel as you mentioned. They will...
