Foxhunter, why would "they" leave the gas port out? Other than making the expended cases easier to find due to the bolt action vs. the semiauto, are there any other reasons? Safety issues, perhaps??...

Sort of a joint reply to both responses. I'll be using a Plainfield M1 Carbine with a shot out barrel. The original intent was to drill out the barrel. use the .17 caliber liner and " do something"...
