6.5 Build

6.5 Creedmoor build on Cabela's Savage 12FV.
Long process due to a barrel/barrel nut issue, which Savage eventually made right, so kudos to them.
1. Bought the rifle at Cabela's last fall on a...

Savage Shack?

I did a search, and the only thing that came up were boutiques and strip clubs.

surface deposit

I agree with DAA. I don't think it looks like corrosion. Looks more like a surface deposit. Most organics will include impurities that can coalesce and plate out over time - especially if they had...

Shoulder set back resolved

While I still don't understand exactly how the seating die design can allow the shoulder to be pushed back, my issue seems to have been caused by:
(a) work-hardened cases producing too much "spring...

Reducing expander ball

I'll back up and explain a bit more since I'm not typing on my phone now.
I had several cases with very poor neck tension - meaning I could shove the bullets down the case mouth by hand after...

I think my root problem started with neck tension...

I think my root problem started with neck tension when sizing. I have done two things. I annealed my cases and I chucked up the spindle and took about 2 thousandths off the expander ball. I will see...

OT: Shoulder set-back during seating

This is off-topic because it is specifically for a 7mm WSM, but I could use some ideas. I have reloaded for this rifle for years - meaning about once every 7 years I load up 40 rounds for hunting. ...

Easy 221FB > 20VT

I am re-posting this advice I got from Adam Bentley years ago on this forum. Easiest, most perfect and pretty cheap way to go from .221 FB to 20VT. I've used it on Remington, Nosler and Lapua...

I'm with Tin Man

Decent scopes. I've got three. No issue with the quality of the optics, but I HATE the circle-dot reticle. Whether on animals or paper, I think it obscures too much of the target.

20VT case forming

Do a search on this site. Adam Bentley posted a wealth of information on forming 20VT cases. The best gem I got from his posts on the subject was to simply use a Redding 17 Mach IV form die #1. ...

Ward's Westernfield

My Grandpa gave me a Ward's Westrernfield bolt action when I was 12. Pretty gun with stamped checkering and unreliable feed from the 5 shot magazines. I believe it was made by Mossberg. I gave it...

Necking down

A lot depends on what you are starting with when necking down. For example, on the 20VT, it can be a bit of a process if you are starting with .223 brass - you are necking down, moving the shoulder,...

After a year.....

I know it's frustrating when someone's mistake creates a problem, but I'm kind of impressed that they did anything after a year and the part had been "used."
