This is the reason....

I don't like posting of these forums. You guys are all hung up on the fact that I said that a swept bolt indicates a Varmint Extreme. Why?
What do you even get for your money with a Varmint...

My feelings...

Well, I'm a little more pragmatic in my view of guns. First of all my thought is to buy something that I want. If the rifle was that desirable why did the guy drop the price $200 just because I...

Not a VE

Definitely not a VE. No swept back bolt handle, wrong checkering, wrong wood, and no polished blueing. I looks like a standard MTV but without the vents in the stock.
One thing that amused me...

Thanks for all of......

.... the replies to my question. My problem was that I was operating in a complete vacuum of ignorance regarding the 1885. In the end, I decided that their might be an 1885 in my future but not in...

Thanks df06

df06, Thanks for affirming a value. I've seen what people are asking for these rifles but can't seem to figure what folks are willing to pay. I was thinking around $800 but was wary that the...

Appreciate the advice.....

but I really wanted a real world value. I see some worrisome reviews about the accuracy of these rifles but those could be coming from some very lousy shooters. The man who owns the rifle came down...

Thanks for the ......

reply HP. But I was looking for what folks actually pay for them. I think the market is at about $800 but I'm not sure. I definitely don't want overpay for this rifle.

What is the real world value of a Browning 1885 in 22 Hornet like new? I'm trying to make a decision to buy. Thanks for any help you can give.

care to tell the circumstances. Earlier in this thread it wasn't even known if the extractor was actually broken. Then, the rifle wasn't even in your possession. Now, you've got a new extractor on...

components. If you spend your money on this, when do you think it has paid for itself. I mean $600 + accessories. I don't see any circumstance where it is worth it.

I think that's probably exactly the way to do it. The extractor doesn't have that hard of a job to do. You must have fired a pretty hot load to wind up damaging the extractor. A good gunsmith...

Mod 21 extractor

Rider, What exactly happened to the extractor? Is the problem just the extractor claw or is it that you lost the whole assembly, spring, plunger, and the claw? No matter, I would expect that a...

Not a rarity

Actually, the bent bolt is not a rarity, it is a standard item on the Varmint Extreme. The thing that's was a rarity is someone willing to spend the money on all of the upgrades that were on the...

general expectation

Shooting groups is fine way to judge the accuracy of any rifle. The more shots the better to find the standard deviation of your groups. But what if you're not a very good shot.
As far as I'm...

It wasn't an ethical shot

If a hit on a 12x12 plate is the standard then the 1st shot was a miss. I can clearly see that the 1st shot hit the ham and wounded the antelope. You ham shoot an antelope and there isn't a whole...

Rifle weight for your cartridge

One other criteria I would consider is barrel length which would 20" to 22" max.
All in weight should be 7 lbs.
