as far as power range...
I like a 4.5x-14X on my 17s. Many trips to Montana for ground squirrels and they've worked great.
Sometimes after hours and days of shooting and twisting the power ring, we look up, ask each other "hey, what power is your scope set on??"
We don't know because we loose track and have to LOOK [lol].
We find they are often on 7 to 9 power. This is drive by ground squirrel shooting. When on a portable bench the 14X gets used, and if you do it a lot a 6.5X - 20X would be fine.
